I was watching TV 30 min ago while at a sudden i hear a small noise and then this message appears on the TV  screen:

"Invalid Format"  and the box is unresponsive!

I restarted it and the 3 front lights are ON, while the same massage appears from the TV: "Invalid Format". (I do not think its TV related since box does not boot anyway)

Tried flashing it with the usb I usually use for flashing it, but nothing happens. Changed unforce to force, the flashing procedure does not start anyway. (The light of the USB flash drive and the rj45 port are both ON at the begging).

All 3 front lights are always ON!!!

Will try flashing with a new usb drive tomorrow. Any idea, reason what might have happened?

Back to the dealer! Probably a busted power supply or worse (broken NAND chip)..

I could try it with the power supply of my other xtrend, although its an ET5000, but I don't think its it. Also will try to flash bootloader again, just for the sake of it.

I bought it December 2012 from an online shop in Germany, so it didn't lasted even 3 years. Even the chinese dm500s have lasted me longer (I will go for a Vu+ Zero or Fromuler 3 next time)

Since I have bought it more then 2 years ago, is a RMA request still valid?

Forgot to mention that I also flashed bootloader and image, plus opened the box cover numerous times :) ... does this void the warranty?

Don't know what the local laws in Germany offer to customers. In Holland only the Dreamboxes are sold with a 2 year warranty. Normally 1 year warranty. So I am afraid an RMA request will be honored but it wil not be under warranty. Considering the current price of the ET-4000, repairing is too expensive.

If you are moderately skilled in electronics, you may want to examine the power board of the ET-4000. Since you heard a noise it is likely to find 'burned', 'broken' or scorched components. Especially check for burst capacitors... You may get lucky...

In the Netherlands everything has at least a 2 year warranty.

And even more for parts the costumer may expect to live longer. European guidelines...

@Rob van der Does

Then you really did choose the wrong retailer. Legal warranty in the Netherlands is 2 years.
And even after that you should only have to pay a part of the repair costs, depending on the 'normal' life-expectancy.
A reasonable life-expectancy for an STB is 5 years; so if a defect shows after 3 years, you would still only have to pay 3/5th of the cost.

Retried flashing but nothing. Now none of the lights goes on - all 3 are off. The green light on the RJ45 port is always ON, but no connection possible to the box.

Strange enough, both HDMI ports of the TV to which this box was connected, do not work anymore. Tried connecting my other working box to them - nothing...no signal.
I think they went down the same moment the first box connected to one of them "died", as there is no other logical explanation. Yet the question, what might have happened to cause the damage to both the box and hdmi ports on the TV?
