If there is a software hack to add this feature, yes  ;)

And what if your government requires a tax on expresso machines that every other manufacturer pays neatly except this single brand? It's just plain wrong.

It's is not a secret who made it. Is is very clear that VU+ is blantently bypassing import taxes. The big question is whether or not this hack will be maintained at all, or even good enough.

We're all very familiar with the speed in which VU+ addresses driver issue...

Don't get me wrong, I couldn't care less what people buy and what they do with it.

I only want them to know what they do, to prevent complains and negativity against OpenPLi. Which I know from experience will happen as soon as something "suddenly" doesn't work anymore after an update.

@ Just Me Yep, but that's not the point. What you can do, has nothing to do with what you should do.

I don't care about "can do" and "should do" (or not do). You are free to do what you want.

I only want to prevent future complaints against OpenPLi, by making sure Zero owners are correctly informed.

OpenPLi will not take the existence of the PAU hack into account when working on the image. Like we don't do with other VU issues. So any update might brake it, and we don't care. If you, as a zero owner, can live with that, then fine by me. If not, and you require a box with PVR capabilities, don't buy a Zero!

But now people complain about OpenPLi because other alternative images support recording. Whatever you'll do people will complain ;)

As soon as the PAU hack breaks, they can't support it either. So they are lying to their users. What they do is up to them, I want to be clear and honest.

I wont even consider buying any boxes from this brand (VU+)

I even dont want one for free.

Just kick all the VU+ models from the official supported openpli images just to make a statement.

It will solve your problem of explaining over and over again why the zero is sold as a "zapper" and why it doesnt record on openpli but does on others.

If other imagebuilders want to support them, let them have it!

If you install the PAU hack on an openpli image, it will record as well. Same as will all other images.

I don't understand where all the whining comes from, I only say "if you do, you're on your own, don't come complaining here".

Is that the reason that there have not been any builds for the VU+ models in the last 5 days?

No, VU+ has broken the BSP layer, the image no longer compiles. So they have to fix it.

Unfortunately, when they fix something they tend to break something else. Which has happened here....

.....And nowhere on the packaging, on the website or in the manual it says that it is capable of recording.

It's the other way around: it doesn't say anywhere that the box is not capable of recording.

That is a rubbish argument. It doesn't say it's an expresso machine either. So should I expect it to make coffee?

Well, kindly look at the rubbish-factor of your 'argument'. Apparently you're the type that would dry the baby in the microwave because it doesn't say in the booklet not to do so.
It's a normal expectation that an E2-STB can record, just as one may expect a car to be able to ride. If a car can't, it should be announced. If an STB can't record, it should be announced.
Don't turn arguments around, that makes the world seem to be upside down.

Oh, BTW, don't get me wrong. I find the attitude of VU+ in this area just as appalling as you do. But you make it worse by blaming customers and telling them that they should have known better!

If even a compile check is too hard before committing a changeset... for me its just another reason to stop supporting them.

But whatever the reason is openpli will get the blame for it since VU+ is perfect since they sell cheap shitty boxes (hardware and drivers)

Users just want their cheap hardware to work with "openpli", even if its "based on openpli" its "openpli"

Rob, please read before you comment. You were the one that suggested that anything not specifically mentioned should be something you may expect. While I said that if it is not specified, you should not except it.

It is not normal that a receiver can record, the majority of the receivers sold can not do that. You are making assumptions based on previous experience, which is exactly what this manufacturer is banking on to sell their box. And an assumption is the mother of all fuckups, also in this case.

So you read my words wrong again. I'm sorry, but I can't say it any clearer....

And can you show me more E2-STB's that can't record (apart from some VU's)?

That is not relevant. You make assumptions.

You can say "All cars have a spare wheel in the boot". And you can assume that when you buy a new car, it will have a spare wheel in the boot. Which is the wrong assumption, and if it turns out not to be the case, it is your problem as consumer, not the manufacturer.

No STB manufacturer has to put in big letters on the box "THIS BOX CAN NOT RECORD" because you happen to know similar boxes that can, and assume this one will be the same.

Your drowning your own arguments.
But go ahead, make the customers to be the faulty party here.....

Anyway: as you're not able to discus this, I'm out of here. I think I made it clear that (in this case) VU+ is to blame, and not any customer.
