Hi Guys/ Girls,

Can anyone give me some direction on setting up crossepg please?

I thought I had set it up right, but it only downloads for a second, not the usual 16mb it downloads on my other box.

Here's my setting:

NO

Once a Day

04:00

Yes

Yes

No

OpenTV Providers

Sky Uk OpenTV (Astra2 on 28.2

Save!

I also created a folder on my usb stick called crossepg.

Ive crosse checked the settings against my vu+ Zero (Im setting up a Solo SE for my friend)

with those settings it dose'nt seem to download, am I missing something?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks,

Dave....

I would not use cross epg with openpli as you box will take an age to reboot, it is a know issue, use Rytec EPGimport as it works just fine.

If you want to use crossepg, even with that bug that makes restart takes ages, you need to install curl from telnet for crossepg be able to download.

Something like:

opkg update

opkg install curl

If you prefer Rytec EPG import install xmltv import from plugin feed, it additional install rytec sources needed for download.

Both have pros and cons, I've gone from crossepg to xmltv import and back to crossepg.

With crossepg you can download epg for a bunch of channels really fast (at least in a Duo2!), less wrong/bad epg events, more channels and no need for internet connection...

As always: please state which function of Cross you use. Cross's Open-TV works fine and as that data is being maintained real time it will even give you actual changes when applicable.
Obviously this can only be used for UK TV.
For other services one needs Willy's XMLTV. And as Cross isn't good at that one would do better to use the XMLTV importer for non UK services.

For the above reasons I use both: Cross for Open-TV and the dedicated importer plugin for XMLT. I've been doing that for ages and never had any issue.

Hi Tony,

thanks for the heads up, I already have crossEPG installed on my vu zero and I think I briefly remember doing this before.

I use crossEPG because I have the SKY.NEW skin installed and thats what the developer use's thus Im trying to replicate his set up.

I'll give this a try tonight.

Cheers buddy.

CrossEPG does the job great for SKY Italy and UK. For others transponder EPG is good enough for me, because all have it. When I was using xmltv EPG I disabled all transponder EPG to not get duplicate entries, but then I was getting 'tons' of bad epg events and even no epg at all. Could it get fixed, yes, but why, if I already have epg for those channels 'out of the box'!

I can see CrossEPG has bad reputation here, maybe that's why no one cares about that bug, but I like, still, I don't force people to use it.

Yes, you're right: Open_TV is for UK & IT TV (and for Australian TV); sorry about that.
But my main point was that Cross should be used for Open-TV, not for XMLTV import.

I agree with you about (possible) double EPG-entries wheb using the importer. Switching of the embedded EPG-readers is not a real option (at least not for me) as that means only EPG for services covered by XMLTV/Open-TV. And there s more out there...

IMHO the 'bad reception' of Cross on the PLi board, is because most people find the XMLTV importer fine enough so they don't (need to) use Cross.
But as I said: XMLTV is only updated once a day, while Open-TV is constantly being maintained. This shows clearly when something important has happened, resulting in rescheduling shows. Open-TV shows this immediate (Cross's Open-TV never gives any multiple entries).

Best would be to embed an Open-TV reader in E2, the same way as has been done for several (proprietary) readers. Alas; that's far above my head...

Exactly, I think I forgot to mention that, CrossEPG works great for OpenTV but I never used it for XMLTV EPG download (import), just for OpenTV download.

I agree with you in all of that.

An embed OpenTV downloader would be great.

Do I understand correctly that I would be able to use CrossEPG exclusively for Open TV (Sky UK & Sky Italy) while other providers can still use EPGImport?

So far I have not even considered using them in tandem but since you are saying EPGImport and CrossEPG work great together I may well now try it too,

I have an ET9000 with OpenPli 4.0 on board. Can you please point me to the correct version of CrossEPG and any extra libraries or telnet commands to make CrossEPG work?

Thanks.

By the way, do I need access to particular transponders for OpenTV to work for me?

As I said: I've used them together for ages. Obviously they shouldn't run at the same time (although I never even tried that).

I have no idea which transponder is being used atm for Open-TV. Just try it and you'll see if it works.
