is there an expert who could have a look at this problem?

it looks like the sequence of timeshift activation causes the problem.

1. recording is activated and switched to... generates black screen... and short continuation of playback

2. pause() is called which then pauses playback

I can't, as I can't reproduce it. I don't have the "short continuation" bit.

I can't do that until this weekend, don't have access to it now.

when you press pause it does not immediately freeze audio/video playback but audio/stutters before playback freezes

I also see this behavior every time I start timeshift on my Duo2. I always thought that it was "normal" and I don't use timeshift much...

On VU+ the PiP tends to stutter for a while at first as well.

Sorry, today I've tested timeshift on my et10k (timeshifting to my ds211+) and I have to admit that timeshift isn't a real problem on my et10k.

I thought I've seen (long, > 1 sec) delays while timeshifting but that isn't true. Timeshift will start immediately.

Also my et10k suffers from this issue, my dm8k not. Both without hdd and both are using the same nas for timeshifting.

Just tried it with my et10k, and no problem whatsoever. Image stands still without problems, but this is local storage, so perhaps it's related to a network connection?

Timeshift was not working at all a couple days ago

http://forums.openpl...er/#entry513426

I didn't update my Duo2 until yesterday, updated and tested it and it seems ok now. I tested it in two or three channels and actually coudn't see any picture stuttering when timeshift is starting.

OpenPLi relies on drivers provided by manufacturer in this case VU+ what don't you understand in this?

You report no problem on your DM nor on your Xtrend so conclusion is problem is specific to.... VU+!

So the bug is in the VU+ drivers not in the OpenPLi development, drivers are closed source so only VU+ can fix them.

Try with other images they are plenty available for VU+ and check yourself, you should probably have the same behavior.

So either convince VU+ to provide proper drivers or purchase another brand that provide image team with correct driver support...

thanks tony.

@all: i understand that bugs can be caused by driver problems. i also understand that developers like to claim driver bugs to be done with it and not to have admit bugs in their own code. i also understand that many driver bugs are not bugs but just slightly different interpretations of a spec.

what i don't understand is that tony reports that the bug is gone without new drivers in the latest pli code.

The problem Tony mentioned is a totally different one. Timeshift didn't work at all. This was a "side effect" of a commit. This is fixed now.

Thanks Pr2, for once again explaining the quite obvious. I am glad somebody else took the dirty job this time.
