Hi,

since my last update HbbTv does not work any longer (enigma2-plugin-extensions-hbbtv - git8507+077f312-r0). Starting enigma2 in the console and pressing the red button results in:

[browser] Starting HbbTV
[browser] VBHController: cannot concatenate 'str' and 'NoneType' objects

Obviously, some error crept in...

Regards,

    Michael

VU+ has it's own HbbTV implementation, as does Xtrend. I don't know about DMM. All other brands use OpenOpera.

HbbTV is useless for all 'old' boxes under 751Mhz and little RAM. HbbTV starts to make sense with CPU's running at 1.3Ghz. Tried it once on a modified DM500HD (worst possible test device). It worked (and that all one could say, extremely slow). Later tested on a Formuler and worked reasonably well.
On my DM8000 it has never worked! Any try resulted in a boot-loop with GSOD. Tried every HbbTV version in the feeds included OpenOpera.. No show in all cases. Have never tried it since...

On the dm8000 you can only use their own closed implementation, which doesn't work on OpenPLi (for obvious reasons).

Hehe, HbbTV even runs fine on the old DUO....

With Dreambox DM7020HD I use the OpenOpera plugin from feed and all OK, with the exception of one of our local DVB-T channel (Kanal 2). Vu+Zero is more powerful than 7020HD, and Yes, it worked with VU+ own HbbTV implementation.
Now it does not work, why? No error log, just does not work.

Which receiver?

Vu+ Ultimo. Worked perfectly well until the last update. Cannot say for sure, but the update before the last one must have been about a week ago (so it did still work last week). If someone tells me where to get old versions, I can try out which version broke it.

Again, I confirm, that the bad change is made very recently. When, exactly, did not know, because I don't use it every day.

There have been very little if none changes in VU+ specific stuff. The last change was this:

commit d748217fab5c89dd6894a1b1c67505ffc10ae815
Author: vu-plus <vu-plus@users.noreply.github.com>
Date:   Mon Sep 7 16:48:43 2015 +0900

    Add vuplus-tuner-turbo.

You might want to run enigma2 in the foreground and watch the messages.

*is* the foreground message!

It looks like we're missing some related messages here (probably not having "[browser]" in front of it.

How to debug hbbtv related things? We have one more problem with the channel, where the video won't start. But this error is only in one of the local DVB-T channel (Kanal 2) and it also exists with the dreambox from beginning when this channel start with hbbtv.

I think that the 4. November is very likely the refraction date!?

This commit being the cause is not very likely.

You're "lucky" I have to fire up the solo2 for testing of the new VU+ drivers from today, I might as well try hbbtv.

Thank you, I am very interested in the information. I sent the Vu+zero already back to the user, but I can inform him wen any progress in this field is available. So please let us know the fresh results with new driver.

It looks like we're missing some related messages here (probably not having "[browser]" in front of it.

The "missing" information isn't there. However, I located the expection handler and added a printout of the stack trace. So here's the location of the culprit:

[browser] Starting HbbTV
[browser] VBHController: cannot concatenate 'str' and 'NoneType' objects
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/HbbTV/vbipc.py", line 40, in command
    send_data = VBController.assamble(opcodestr, data)
  File "/usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/HbbTV/vbipc.py", line 33, in assamble
    return header + data
TypeError: cannot concatenate 'str' and 'NoneType' objects

Okay, so in order to find out who is calling the method with None, I added

        def command(opcodestr, data = ""):
                if data is None:
                        import sys, traceback
                        traceback.print_stack(file=sys.stdout)

(One day, I'll find out how to do remote debugging.) This gives me:

  File "/usr/lib/enigma2/python/Components/GUISkin.py", line 47, in createGUIScreen
  File "/usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/HbbTV/hbbtv.py", line 64, in start_hbbtv_application
    ret = VBController.command('HBBTV_OPENURL', self._url)
  File "/usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/HbbTV/vbipc.py", line 39, in command
    traceback.print_stack(file=sys.stdout)

which indicates that an instance of HbbTVWindow is created with an url that equals None.

I could investigate this further, but maybe this is sufficient to ring some bell.
