HI everyone,

i've been using a DM500HD for years running openpli, upgrading packages on a monthly basis.

a couple of months ago, the tuner stopped responding to frequency or diseqc changes requests.

i was able to watch tv channels from a transponder, but not from other transponders/satellites. sometimes, unplug/replug the coax would help it to catch the signal, but quite annoying to have to stand up for each channel change. the tuner was showing 0% (channels not greyed out in the favourites).i tried to flash my own backups, original openPLI images, nothing.

well, dead tuners happen,  i replaced it with a Vu+ zero, started with a BH image to try it, and found out that openpli was my favourite.

i made a backup of the BH image, and installed openPLi 4.0. a couple of days later, the exact same problem as with my DM500HD.

i reflashed an openPli image, a different nightly, reflashed a backup, problem remained.

I then started to doubt about my lnb's/diseqc killing tuners, but when i re-flashed my BH backup, everything was working fine.

i now think this is an openPLi bug. but... is it a known bug? i searched the forum but no luck.

i know Vu+ drivers aren't always at their best, but a DM500HD should be fine... there is no link between these STB's as far as i know.

i should try to reflash my DM500HD to see if it's really dead, but it's now used as iptv player.

thanks to anyone having some info, i really wish my openPLi image back.

I would say that is a hardware fault, most likely tuners, but seems not because it works with blackhole images.

Try reflash OpenPli and re-configure all settings without restoring them from backup.

Hi Tony,

thanks for your reply. At first, i was sure it was hardware fault, i bought a new receiver. but when you have the same issue on different hardware's with images from the same team, you change your mind.

i already tried to reflash from another nightly release, the problem remains. only switching back to BH (backup or official image) helps.

is there a way to log what OpenPLi "asks" to the tuner, and see its reply?

thanks,

Okay, I will explain this once again. The interface between enigma and the tuner is called the dvb drivers. It's an opaque blob we retrieve from the manufacturer. We have no access tot the source code nor can we change anything to it. If enigma handles tuners from different manufacturers differently, it's almost always due to "something" in the drivers. Enigma is manufacturer-agnostic, it does not have code specific for DMM, Xtrend, VU+, etc.

If you see different behaviour regarding tuner management between different images then two things may be the case:

- the other image are using a different version of the drivers

- the other image has workarounds implemented for bugs in the drivers (I know VTI does it, for instance), which we don't do, by principle, we require the driver bugs to be fixed instead

Hi Erik,

yes, thanks for explaining once again. It confirms what i've read on the forum.

what i don't get, if there are drivers issues, is why i'm the only one to claim for help, with 2 different STB from different manufacturers.

i'm not the only one to own a zero nor a dm500hd, this problem should have been met by other users. and this was partially the reason of my post.

am i using a bad plugin that could mess things (read, my setup creates that issue), or are we plenty of OpenPLi users having the same problem.

as i said, i've been using my DM500HD for years before it appeared. problem only appeared around 15/09/2015.

could a crash of a soft cam cause this behaviour? fta channel available and zapping to paytv (cleared by my local card) impacts the tuner reporting "no signal" ?

and when disconnecting-reconnecting coax coming from the LNB's, the tuner finds the signal and image appears? until i zap to another channel.

this is a weird issue and i don't know where to start dig. it could be my lnb's (but they work with BH), my plugins (but they work with BH), my hardware (at least one stb is ok with bh), or openPLi.

my 1st reflex was to ask here if problem was known and already met by others.

Did you re-flash without AutoBackup turned on?

Did you install any plugins before the situation happened?

Service searching and re entering tuner configuration did solve small issue (message about services not available) after online update. Tuner was no longer set to advanced, caused by positioner setup?

Does all not work on dm8000 and or vuduo2

Fresh flash new scan same issue after enigma2 restart or reboot service not found check tuner config.

Channels lists are all grey . After reconfiguring tuner all ok til next reboot or e2 restart

see :

In logs can be clearly seen what is happening.

Same problem with a Mutant HD1200. Sometimes, the tuner stops responding when I change satellite position (diseqc A-B-C-D)
