This is an OpenPLi 7 box. This discussion is about OpenPLi 8, so totally not relevant for this case, 7 doesn't use udev.

Can you check the contents of the file /etc/filesystems? Is "ntfs-3g" and "exfat" listed?

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

the drive is physically not there, we can only speculate, I would detach all other USB drive before testing, I have here few USB 3.0 drives, they all work on PC, on my box they need external power supply or a USB Hub with external supply

Do you mean disconect USB and SD card from box or software? If software I am not familiar with it. I can fallow step by step direction only :( as WanWizard gave me :) It can not be a problem with supply because it was working directly from box with openATV and openHDF image.
