Hi all & Happy New Year.

In my infinate wisdom, I decided to flash the upgraded 750 Mhz bootloader and ran into a this problem.

When switching on the stb from the rear pwer switch. The 2 front Leds light up and stay lit with the power Led staying purple (this usualy only goes this colour when writing to flash).

The stb just stays like that. I've had the covere off and there is no obvious sign of damage or any smell of burning etc.

Does anyone know if its fixable or have I trashed it ?

Thanks in advance Colin

I've been running my box at 750Mhz since day one, so that in itself can't be the reason.

If flashing the bootloader failed, and you've corrupted it, then you may have a big problem. Flashing again, or flashing an image, doesn't work anymore?

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

You have trashed it! In fact, you may have written a incompatible cfe_bin file for your XP1000. Most likely the image you have downloaded was not intended for your XP1000...

Since the flash somehow responds to power-on (and showing the purple "I am about to flash" LED) you MAY get lucky by downloading the 100% sure proper cfe_bin file for the XP1000.. Upack it on a cleanly formatted USB stick. Insert in the XP1000 USB port and press the CH- button to flash.... It that doesn't help... To bad!

Thanks for the reply, I though it may trashed.

I've attatched the original file, should anyone be interested. I got it from Open ATV a long time go.

My only other thought was that my fat32 USB had some error on it.

Pity as it has been a great little box for 3 years.

Xtrend et8000 on its way tomorrow..

Thanks Colin

I compare yours against mine and they are exact the same!

Did you use ch - instead of ch + to flash the cfe (aka bootloader) ?

Hi theparasol,

yes (ch-).  I had it on the 600mhz for over a year. Never had any problems.

Although I haven't used usb flashing for a couple years, and always soft flash via ofgwite or Backup Suiite. (rear USB is a pain).

It did take 3 atempts to get it bricked. 1. It looked like it had flashed good then stopped at the Blue XP1000 boot screen. 2. froze with the white noise type screen. 3. Final situation describe above. Forgot to metion both Network Leds are also on with no cable attatched.

Cheers Colin

It is a driver issue

flash with this firmware: OpenPLi-4.0-beta-xp1000-20160106_usb.zip found @ http://openpli.org/d...digital/xp1000/

All newer firmwares have issues, they're working on it

flash with USB fat32 disk, never flash over network: if driver issues you're the peanut.

Use an USB 2 extention lead (short and shielded)

You do realise I'm talking about flashing the Bootloader via USB and using ch- button at the from panel.

Yes I'm aware of you flashing bootloader.

The spill out in the video (white noise type screen) is what I got with images / online updates after 20160106

- If you got still get booting xp1000 hanging @ logo. I would try flashing that image

OK Jan

I will go slow.

This is the Lounge Forum. It is for anything not PLi related. ie images and drivers. OK

A Bootloader is not PLi related, it is Manufacturer related.

If You have found a way to Flash a Bootloader over a Network ? Then I hold My Hands Up.

And especially for You. If You are Flashing an image manualy via USB everytime, the You are more the Peanut than I.

Let Me Explain. Your way first.

Power Off STB, Remove USB storage (ext formated). Copy image folder to 2nd USB (Fat32 formated) insert USB in STB. Power On and press CH+ button.Power Off STB. Remove 2nd USB (Fat32 formated) with Image on it. Insert original USB. Power On STB.

Congatulations.

My Way

FTP Image to existing storage, unpack then ofgwrite. Box reboots image installed.

Make sense ?

Have a Nice Day Peanut :)

I don't know if ofgwrite actually allows to write into bootrom area. The CH- button prepares (from the existing!! bootloader) the opening-up of the bootrom area in the flash.. Without this open door nothing gets written into it....

Hi goldeneye.

No it dosen't.

ofgwrite is only for image image installation, Nothing to do with Bootloader.

Broadcom cannot guarantee it will run good on 751Mhz and reduced it to 500Mhz, however Broadcom update the info for the BCM7358 a short while ago and do now guarantee up to 600Mhz.

I have it on 600. The faster one didn't really work out OK at my end...

Mind, not the best rec if you have a lot of EPG etc. Not enough RAM and slow processor (single core)...

Otherwise solid, it seems to me, good drivers etc. But it should be used not for many satellites positions or not with too much EPG, picons etc.

Then it is OK, if you are not too impatient, it seems to me... Plus, I add a cooling fan, just in case... ;)

Just in case:

BOOTLOADER FOR SF8HD/XP1000/XP1000
1. Octagon SF8 HD
2. Octagon XP1000+
3. MaxDigital XP1000

If you change your bootloader you could lose your STB warranty. Unconfirmed, unexamined and unofficial bootloader can permanently damage your satellite box forever. Broadcom cannot guarantee it will run good on 75o Mhz and reduced it to 500 Mhz, however Broadcom update the info for the BCM7358 a short while ago and do now guarantee up to 600Mhz. At your own risk!

- FLASH OCTAGON SF8 HD
 Format your USB stick to FAT32 – DON’T USE USB STICK OVER 8G.
 Copy the COMPLETE XP1000 folder to root of your USB stick
 Connect USB stick to USB port
 Power on receiver
 When USB appears on VFD press CH- (NOT CH+)
 Wait for the flashing is complete, the receiver will reboot itself

- FLASH CTAGON XP1000+/MAXDIGITAL XP1000
 Format your USB stick to FAT32 – DON’T USE USB STICK OVER 8G.
 Copy the COMPLETE XP1000 folder to root of your USB stick
 Connect USB stick to USB port
 Power on receiver
 Wait until the REC and POWER LEDs are not red (both should be red color)
 Press CH- (NOT CH+)
 Wait for the flashing is complete, the receiver will reboot itself

Seems I have a good silicon production, my xp1000 is running fine @750mhz since spring 2014.

Too bad since I hoped it would brick my box sooner so I could replace it with a more modern one ;)

Now the wife isnt even complaining any longer about its speed :(

Only the IR - eye is very picky, but I know how to fix that one but she refuses me to open up the box. If you break it you will have to do with the dm800hd pvr that is on our campsite right now ;)

Thanks Gorski & theparasol for your support.

@Gorski The box wont get to boot, just the All LEDs light Up. Who said Christmas was over....maybe some JTag experiment in the Future.

RiP XP1000 for now.

@theparasol, the Xp1000 ir thing was pretty bad, almost had to have direct line of sight. Had similar problem with a DM500 years ago, took the cover off and bent the ir sensor to the front & remove the frony plastic bit. 200% improvement. Other than that it I never switched off the XP1000 for long in 3 years. Never tried standby. :D

Recieved my new Xtrend et8000 today and up and running. £160 from WoS. Same price I paid for the XP1000 3 years ago.

Also first Twin Tuner for me, so expect a few tedious questions to follow.

Wishing both a Happy Year. :)

Colin
