Yes, and this will be another "hidden" enigma2 option.

 

To enable seek the user will need to know that first of all he must enter in timeshift mode.
And if he is in the timeshift mode, then the number buttons work differently. But maybe he just wanted to pause stream.

Please help... I suggest it should be made the same as timeshift... And in fact it is timeshift....
Nothing is hidden at all...
And again... I think it is even better to cover non live vod streams a completely different way... By not including then in a channel list. Usually such kind of streams are not static/permanent at all

Why not use fast forward/rewind keys? You don't need to press pause at first.

That part is already functioning in E2 if the stream does support it... 

Did I miss something? Like an RTSP implementation to send rewind, fast forward and seek commands to the server? And all servers supporting this?

Gstreamer does the job. If stream supports it we can use it.

That still requires the server to support an interface for sending seeking commands (like RSTP). I'm quite sure most servers don't have such a thing.

Yes, not every server supports it, but all/many which sell VOD movies.

I have here a stream with normal .mkv ending: http://blablabla/bla.mkv. Don't know how seeking works, but it works.

I would suggest to don't do anything at all. Those "VOD" services are illegal pirate pay tv or premium movies content from incompetent servers that don't know how to program a nice plugin and just add all the movie links in a bouquet list. Let them rot in hell.

Although the thread-title is 'VOD' I think this is about all IPTV (via bouquets)? And there's nothing illegal about that.

Or am I wrong?

Partly correct and partly wrong... Seeking iptv when it's possible shoud br supporter..., that users put bouquets with illigal streams on their box is something we cannot withhold...

There are also legal usages. I know some provider give customers access to some movies.

Mhm. I tested again and it seems I haven't tested well yesterday. Problem is that with the patch you cannot use 0-9 for number zap on gstreamer channels anymore.

I don't like that. I thought only fast forward/rewind would be active, but also 0-9 are used for seeking. Second problem is that fast rewind often not work on gstreamer streams.

 

So what can we do? What do you think of this?

Create new action map with play, pause, fast forward, fast rewind, next song(>>|) and previous song(|<<) keys. In case of gstreamer streams use only this action map and map the keys to key 4,6,7 and 9. So I don't want to use fast rewind as it's not working properly. When the user presses << I want to "jump back x seconds" like pressing 4 in movie player. With only 2 keys you could also implement something like a binary search, which is quite nice.

 

Or something like for timeshift. So by pressing a key you get into seek mode and then you can use number keys for seeking. I don't like that very much, but timeshift users already know this.
