hi athoik. i have try today with 3 different usb drive, formatted with fat 32 (fresh format)
with other firmware i put usb and power on, press ok and i have 3 step:
1/3 updating osmini/kernel.bin
2/3 updating osmini/roots.bin
3/3 updating osmini/splash.bin
then it reboot and i have new firmware
with openpli (i have try today with OpenPLi-4.0-beta-osmini-20160402_usb.zip) i have:
1/2 updating osmini/kernel.bin
2/2 updating osmini/roots.bin
then it reboot, there is old splash logo (previous firmware) and it turn off

OpenPLi never includes the splash. It is the manufacturers logo, and images should not touch it. But some do, they must have bigger ego's.
If you want the manufacturers logo back, flash the manufacturers image first, then OpenPLi.
