I just got to hear from the Dutch Samsung support that their 4k-TV  UE40JU7000 Benelux model has no option to activate unicable. The German version of the same model however has the unicable option available. They suggested I should import a German model to have unicable available...Here is my question: could I circumvent this silly restriction by installing the German firmware?

kind regards,

Jean

Sometimes it's sufficient to switch the language and the option is available.

Or the location (country) and maybe do a software update.

Thanks for the suggestion, I switched to German but the Unicable option did not appear. It was worth trying

kind regards,

I tried to switch the country but it's only the Benelux-countries  from which I can choose :-( Then I tried to install the German firmware from USB, unfortunately I won't install maybe because the version (1433) on the German website is older than the one I have installed now on the TV (1455), I guess they don't allow downgrading...All this makes me think again: why don't we have open source linux tv's just as we have satellite receivers.

kind regards,

jean

Well, I only use my TV as a monitor; never the tuners (nor the 'smart'-part).

Which I am sure, at some point, the majority of the users will see the benefit of as well.

Unfortunately they are difficult to get.

Before my Pana I had a NEC plasma, a real monitor. Now you have to fork out for multi-tuner systems, analog TV support, and smart rubbish you don't need but have to pay for... :(

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Actually I never found a true "monitor" TV in this sense. Try to find one without tuners and without audio... But I try to stick to the concept as close as possible.

I had this one. No tuner, no audio, made by Pioneer (with a Kuro plasma display).

Not to mention all the picture 'enhancements' and frequency 'upgraders' that you do indeed pay a lot for and have to turn off for every input.

And as a premium every TV has 'overscan' enabled that you also have to turn off (if possible at all).

I wish I could find a real monitor; just a large OLED screen with multiple HDMI-inputs, nothing more.
