So I'm trying to install the latest OpenPli into my Vu+ Solo SE v2. I put the installation files and directories into a USB stick formatted as FAT32, switched off the device, plugged the stick in and switched the device on. The led flashed a few times, then started pulsing as it apparently should. But now it has been pulsing for 40 minutes or so. Is this really normal? Or should I somehow restart the installation? What happens if I switch off the device now? Does it get bricked or can I try reflashing it again? Is there any way to recover a bricked device?

Thanks in advance.

Try a fresh download, make sure you remove any other USB device and if it is still the same try another USB for the installation.

Thanks, I'll try that next. Perhaps I also buy a new USB stick.

But my main question is: Is it safe to turn off the device now? Does it work anymore when I turn it back on?

I doubt it has flashed so power off and remove the USB, it should take no more than 2 mins to flash.

I turned it off and removed the USB stick. When I turned it on, it only showed the "Vu+ Your Smart Linux TV Player" screen, nothing else. So apparently the flashing procedure had started but not finished properly.

I reformatted the stick, downloaded an older version of OpenPli, copied the files, connected the stick to a different port and tried again. The flashing procedure started but now it has already been pulsing for 8 minutes.

Looks like I cannot edit the previous message so I post a new one...

I turned it off again, connected the USB stick to computer and checked the file MD5 hashes against the downloaded files on my computer. All files seem to be OK.

Vu does nou have a console output in their drivers so auto restore and especially auto install progression is fully unintended and indeed could take long

WaveFrontier 28.2E | 23.5E | 19.2E | 16E | 13E | 10/9E | 7E | 5E | 1W | 4/5W | 15W

So over 1 hour could be normal, even when flashed from a USB stick like I'm doing??

I'll try it once again and leave it flashing overnight then...

And by the way, I flashed my friend's Vu+ Zero a while ago and it took only a couple of minutes.

I would try another USB, I find unbranded cheap ones as good as any when it comes to flashing.

The second attempt was at 8 min when I posted. The third attempt has been running for nearly 2 hours now, and the led is still pulsing.

I'll buy a new USB stick tomorrow, although I doubt it would help. Could the device just be faulty?

here is steps to flash my soloSE & never has problem

1- try a small size capacity flash memory like 1GB or 2GB better result ( me i am using my old 2GB sony flash & it works 100%)

2- always format ur usb flash with a good program eg: HPUSBDisk & not through windows formating tools program coz HPUSBDisk gives better result

3- copy folder "vuplus" to root of ur usb after formatting

4- switch off ur soloSE from rear power button

5- disconnect any LAN NETWORK CABLE or any other  storage media ( usb / external HDD) from ur box

6- insert ur usb in vertical usb port ( always gives me better result)

7- switch on ur box & wait aroun 1-2 min till flashing done & white LED shows an in interrupted form

8- switch off ur box remove usb & connect all ur previous cable or devices (usb/hdd)

9- switch on ur box & image should boot & load fine till it reach settings & thats it :)

I bought a new Kingston USB stick (8GB, no smaller was for sale), copied the newest files into it, and installation was successful. Thanks to everyone for answers.

Maybe the old stick is faulty but I think it's rather weird that it caused the installation to start but it did not finish. Perhaps I will stress test that stick next... Some thousands of GBs of write operations should reveal defects.

The problem with USB stick recognition for flashing is timing. The USB code in the bootloader is quite basic, and only waits for a short time.

If it takes to long for a stick to register itself as a USB storage device, the bootloader times out and the stick isn't seen. This behaviour is different for every box, so sticks that work in one may fail in another.

Find a stick that works, label it for flashing only, and store it in a safe place so you don't loose it. ;)

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

A reformat of the USB-stick could also work wonders. A tool suitable for that purpose is e.g. HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool 2.2.3
