@Socks: 'home' & 'end' are being used by VU to jump to a previous/next marker during playback.

Newer versions of the VU+ remotes do not have the Home & End keys at all.

See post #10. You want to avoid having to send crazy key sequences to have a reliable on or off, you just want to send "on" or "off".

But if there are no discrete on and off keys in the keymap, and they can't be mapped to a key using the hotkey. If the discrete functions are in the hotkey list, it can be worked around using not-used keys, like "F1" => "discrete_on", "F2" => "discrete_off". But not every remote has two spare keys...

Thank you WlanWizard. You exactly describe my problem.

So you want to have the discrete_on and discrete_off commands in the hotkey as function?

Please note discrete_on will then never work when the box is (off) in deepstandby.... Then you still need the power_toggle function in that case...

Yes, please. That's ok for me. I don't use deep standby very much.

It also would be nice to have "End long" and "Home long" available in hotkey.

+1. I never switch the box off.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

IMHO all keys should be available as normal (short) and long push.

Now we need to know which boxes (brands?) actually support the discrete power commands. According to @Socks at least Xtrend & VU support discrete power-off.

All boxes support discrete power on/off. It's just a software issue to map (spare) remote buttons to discrete_on and discrete_off within hotkey.

AFAIK, only dreamboxes have dedicated IR remote codes for that.

All boxes support discrete power on/off.

That highly surprises me; I'll have a look at my boxes.

Only DMM supports that... for the other boxes you can use another button long-or-short as work-a-round....

But the functions to turn OFF the box are already available in Hotkey...I only need to add something for discrete power ON as when we are in the standby screen the hotkey functionality is not active... So this will be challenging... But I think discrete power ON is not really required... (you can use toggle function instead as OFF is covered)

'discrete-on' is just as important as 'discrete-off'.
Only the use of discrete power commands makes sure the box is actually in the state it should be. And remember: using power-toggle (to set the box to the 'on'-state) actually puts the box to off when the box was on.

The formuler F1 does too. It's what I made the keymap change for.

Yes, I'm already using that. But it's not the same as when I modify keymap.xml. Hotkey only works in InfoBar context. discrete_off works in GlobalActions context.

Because of that I have to send weird command sequences like "Exit -> Exit -> Exit -> End" to make sure there is no open menu or something.

As Rob already said, if the box is already on this will put the box off.

Then you'd better also include a 'stop', to make sure it also works during playback. I also have such a row of commands for my Harmony, even without using any discrete power commands.

Can you tell me where? I looked through the whole list, but I can't find the discrete-off.

It's called "standby"

Hi,

if you use a Logitech Harmony you can get something which works more or less like discrete commands by sequences.

Go to device settings, power settings, "switch off device if not used", "device has 2 button for on and off" now you can enter 2 sequences for on and off.

On sequence:

blue, power toggle, exit

Off sequence:

menu, direction up, OK, OK

Explanation

on sequence blue prevents most boxes to react on the following power toggle and exit closes plugin list when box was running. If box is in standby blue does nothing and power toggle switches box on.

off sequence switches the box to standby with the menu which will not work if box if in standby.

I use these sequences for >1 year now and they work perfect on my VUs and should also work on a lot of other STBs.

Ralf

"discrete_off"  is by default mapped to "KEY_KP0", So all that would be required to assign this key via Hotkey is assigning 'KP0' to a key of your choice (e.g. 'F1').

It would be interesting to know if Littlesat is winning the challenge to get '"discrete_on" working from standby.
