Hello everyone,

I have a ET8500 and ET7000 at home.

Before I purchase the Canalsat Smartcard from Switzerland, can anyone tell me if this Canalsat card from Switzerland works on E2?

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

No this card won't work from the internal reader.

And I don't think that there is an official PCMCIA for CanalSat Switerland and if one exist it will probably be in the CI+ format and it won't work in your STB with OpenPLi.

If you want to receive this channel you need to use the official recommended STB (Humax NA-Fox)

Hi Pr2,

thanks for your answer.

I can confirm that CI+ works with OE-Alliance based images for ET8500.

If PCMCIA for Canalsat swiss exists, you are saying that CI+ would not work with the canalsat swiss?

Hi,

You are in the OpenPLi forum and afaik CI+ is not working in OpenPLi. The support for CI+ is a hack and OpenPLi doesn't allow it in there build.

OpenPLi has a CI+ interface that vendors can plug into that doesn't violate the GPL license, and there is also a solution possible based on an external cihelper module.

Some vendors already use this, for example Formuler and Mutant.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Hi,

Then it can be interesting to add this information in the STB comparison Wiki so we can check if it is officially supported or not.

Regards,

Pr2

No problem to update the wiki when I have the right information (I have already contributed to it) but in this case I have absolutely no idea which box officially support CI+ in OpenPLi. I was even not aware before this post that OpenPLi officially support CI+ on some boxes.

We don't.

The manufacturer does, they provide and maintain the BSP containing the drivers and any other binary they want to include (such as HbbTV or blindscan modules, or a ciplushelper).

But apart from a few manufacturers, none have bothered to do so.

+ CI+ cannot be added in a complete open source way. It will always need a part of closed code from the manufacturer.
