What's the sound volume level that corresponds to the original unmodified sound signal?

The maximum signal level is 0 dB.
Okay, that's a bit daft, but as you're talking about sound quality, I assume that you have your amplifier connected to your receiver using a digital path, S/PDIF or HDMI and then the volume level is kind of a virtual thing, especially when you pass ac3 to the amplifier directly.
