Hi, I am using an xtrend 4000 for some years now. I noticed there was a kernel update some months ago.

Since then my box has become quite a bit slower. I know it's not the most powerful stb, but since the kernel update, there is a noticeable difference. Especially when recording! When a recording is running, the menu is very laggish and the spinning circle in the upper left corner appear very frequently, even if simply watching the same channels that is being recorded.

I also have another problem. I am using a network share (from my nas) for recordings, as an hdd replacement. I have tried both cifs and nfs shares, with every possible option combination (nolock, async, soft, rsize, wsize), but the speed I get is very very slow. Reading from and writing to the network mount (xtrend's shared hdd to pc) tops at ~2-3 MB / sec! The speed is so slow that some recordings have glitches. Accessing the network share directly from my nas (pc to nas) gives me about 50-70 MB /secs, which is perfectly fine. I understand that xtrend has an 100mbps ethernet, but I would expect to get 6-8 MB / sec.

Maybe the two problems are related? Maybe the slow network share speed makes the stb lag while recording? Does anyone know? Do these issues have to do with kernel update?

You should check if there are external changes on your local LAN. The ET-4000 has a 100Mbit LAN. Using this over a 1000Mbit LAN may cause problems... If you use a 1000/1000Mbit hub try to add a single 100Mbit hub... The 4.0.1 kernel (if that's being used) is more stringent on the LAN execution/performance..

How old is your image? There was another kernel change (from 3.18.x to 4.0.1) a few weeks ago.
If you already use latest kernel, make a full backup and install new image. Check before you install any plugin whether problem still exist.
If you still have the problem you can flash backup.

@goldeneye, Yes, my network and switch are 1000mbps. I don't have a 100mbps switch to test, but even if that is the problem, what am I supposed to do then? Change my network to 100mbps?

@betacentauri, I have latest updates from the feed. I got the newer kernel that way. Not through flashing. I don't have any plugins installed.

Just buy yourself a 100Mbit hub... Plug it into a free port of your 1000Mbit switch/router and try again...

Then it's worth to flash the box and see if that helps.

Tried a 100 mbps switch --> Didn't help.

Re-installed latest image --> Didn't help.

So currently, using a network mount (either nfs or cifs) I can get around 1-2 MB /s speeds in any direction (sending of receiving). The speed is ridiculously slow, not even enough for a single HD recording.
