Quite possible, OpenPLi doesn't include the drivers by default, you need to install them from the feeds.

I use my Zero only with a wireless stick without any problems. I think mine is a Belkin N150, but I'm not 100% sure, I've got it a while...

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Thanks WanWizard!

Download as a plugin on the box or first with a computer and then to the box?

No, on the box. The biggest challenge is usually to figure out what chipset is used in the stick. Usually if you google your stick brand and model with "linux", you'll find it.

So say your stick contains a Realtek 8192C/8188C, then you need to run "opkg install kernel-module-rtl8192cu" on the box.
