Hi, I'm starting here as it seems the most relevant thread I could find.

I've got a couple of the super cheap "mt7601u" based wireless USB adapters.

Attached File  Adapter pic.PNG   100.07KB   6 downloads

I've tested them out over the past 2 weeks on my Xtrend et8000 without any problems. I also have Astrometa USB DVB-T2 adapter working quite happy.

So I went ahead and purchased a Zgemma H3.2TC as it has a newer kernel and the drivers are listed as being included However the adapters won't work.

Please help.

Xtrend et8000 Working

So I went ahead and purchased a Zgemma H3.2TC as it has a newer kernel and the drivers are listed as being included. However the USB WiFi adapter causes this problem.

@openpli  please take another look at this.

Obviously the USB-WiFi works on my Xtrend et8000 as shown above.  The fact that the device crashes the kernel on both my ZGemma's (Star-S & H3.2TC)  is a cause for concern.

After following YOUR advice I cant see where I have gone wrong.

I bought the "ZGemma H3.2T2" in good faith, with a specific set requirements in mind. The WiFi and DVB-T2 being of most importance (FTA Football World Cup).

I think you should make a check on what openpli supported stb's support what periferrals.

best regards Colin

Just use wifi adapters with R5370 chipset. They work fine.

We don't support any periferrals, and I'm pretty sure that because of that, none of us has advised you to buy anything. As to USB tuners, we are very vocal about not to use those.

I don't know what a "ZGemma H3.2T2" is, but if you mean "ZGemma H3.2TC", that one has a T2 tuner on board, so why not use that instead of a USB tuner?

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Just checking that you actually installed the firmware, did you execute the command below?

opkg install firmware-mt7601u

Sorry my bad, should have read/written manufacturer's wifi support in the sales blurb, without any specifics. Although "Try before You Buy" was the reference I was thinking of. I don't think it unreasonable as a end user to think that a plugin device that works on one stb should work on another with similar specifications.

@WanWizard, please take that chip of your shoulder. Spellcheck "ZGemma H3.2T2" is, but if you mean "ZGemma H3.2TC" oh realy ? If you switched of you speed reader You may noticed this is a WiFi Drivers thread and my inclusion of  "I also have Astrometa USB DVB-T2 adapter working quite happy." was to let anyone reading my dmesg that this was installed.

With all due respect, I still find myself with 2 different ZGemma stb's that have the firmware/drivers built but not working.

The very same USB-WiFi Adapter works fine on now Unsupported Xtrend ET8000.

best wishes to all

Not the case at all. I read DVB-T2 and made the incorrect assumption this was about a DVB stick.

Anyway, we don't do anything in this area. The manufacturer provides the linux kernel sources, and that defines which devices are supported or not, through the defconfig file. If that file enables the driver for your device, our build process simply uses the source provided to compile the driver.

There could be a million reasons why something doesn't work on one box but works on another box, and a not working one is extremely hard to debug, especially if it loads and crashes and we don't own the hardware to test and debug with. Which is why we advise to stay clear of any USB devices if and when possible, and test or get confirmation of something working before you buy if not.

Chinese webshops do advertise the chipset, and charge only a couple of euro's for it (shipping costs included).

@WanWizard, Please accept my apology. I didn't mean to have a go at you. I re-read my original post, and it does sound like I was talking about both DVB & WiFi adapters.

Moving on, I got an even cheaper USB-WiFi adapter £2.45 delivered and it's working to my needs.

Where to find drivers for R5370 chipset, Openpli 7 DM800HD SE?

Try those compiled with new OE.

Just ran into this - thank you!!  There's lots of new USB Wifi adapters being bought out there, using the 8192EU chipset. In the repository the firmware is there, but the kernel module for this is missing.  Very happy to got mine working but I'm sure there's lots of others that are still looking for this.
