I have used my ET9000 for several years now but I disconnected it yesterday to check signal levels on a different istallation and I re-connected it this morning.

All I can see is just the blue blinking diode, not just 3 or 5 blinks, it keeps blinking all the time the boxed is switched on.

Could it be that some capacitotors need to be replaced or is the motherboard (battery) dead?

Can someone please suggest what to go for?

I may try this later because now the box is completely disconnected but I don't think telnet will work. There is nothing on the display and the diode just blinks, so I don't think there is any connectivity.

Hi,

Check on the power supply the capacitors, this is a common problem, just replace them and it should restart.

Exactly. The first to replace is the one closest to a coolingblock. Look for leaking capacitors.

I left the box disconnected for the whole day and now it is somehow back to life.

I did not see any leaking capacitors though.

Can somebody please mark in the attached photo all those capacitors which are most vulnerable to leaking?

Thanks.

At the right top there are two rows of three capacitors. Of the set of larger capacitors the third one down looks dodgy to me. It looks to be inflated somewhat.

That elco dries out because it is located to close to a heatsink.

I had a similar issue in my ET9000 more than a year ago. It appeared to be a defect 4700µF capacitor on the power supply board. (as in the picture).

The top of the capacitor was a bit convex shaped. After removing the component more damage was seen. After replacing with a new one everything worked again and still is after 19 months.

Thanks. The elco pointed out by Bag58 and Pedro_Newbie seems to be different than yours.

It is 10V, 220uF, 105 deg. I hope to find a replacement elco at an electronics shop.

Thanks but the kit of 18 elcos you provided a link to does not have a 10V 220uF elco.

Hello,

It seems I have a similar problem again. Only the blue POWER diode is blinking.

Capacitors seem to be OK but the battery is probably dead.

Does the blinking have something to do with the battery?

The battery is on the security board. If this is empty, you cannot use the ET9000 anymore.

OK, correction. The battery shows about 1,25 V.

When I flick the power switch on (at the back), the front diode keeps blinking indefinitely.

It probably means the power supply is defective and I should look for a faulty capacitor?

By the way, is it possible to perhaps measure some voltages to make sure the PSU is indeed defective?

If so, where should I measure them and what values are expected?

The battery is on the security board. If this is empty, you cannot use the ET9000 anymore.

In the latest firmware the security board check is disabled so you don’t need it anymore, an empty battery is not the issue here..
