Hello....I am new to this forum. I am now using Openpli on both my VU+Solo and VU+Zero decoders. But I have one small problem...when I changed the firmware on my VU+Zero to Openpli I still get the Blackhole bootup screen just before the Openpli screen. Is this usual or something wrong? The VU+zero works perfectly...only this small problem. Thanks for your help.

Search for splashscreen and you'll find a solution.
OpenPLi never replaces the manufacturers logo (splashscreen) like other image builders do.

For the Solo it is the same. The OpenPLi image does not contain a manufacturer splash screen, some others do. So if it is replaced by another image, you have to manually correct it again. This is true for all boxes we support.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Flash your box with an original image from VU+ and then flash OpenPli, that will restore the original VU+ boot screen.

Flash your box with an original image from VU+ and then flash OpenPli, that will restore the original VU+ boot screen.

There is no need to flash an entire image, but only the file

splash_cfe_auto.bin

To do so you need to prepare a pendrive with the original Vu+ image, then delete all files except the splash_cfe_auto.bin file.

Then flash as usual, your current OpenPLi image will remain untouched, only the bootup screen will be changed.

Tried this...did not work.

On the pendrive be sure not to delete the original folder structure of the image, only the unneeded files.

Possibly use a pendrive with an access led to be sure that the flashing procedure has completed (when the led stays off)

Power off the receiver before removing the pendrive.

Tried it many times...still same blackhole splashscreen before Openpli begins to load.

Thanks mate....that way it works. Also noticed that Openpli images do not carry that file when flashing...that is why the splash screen remains the one from the previous image. Why do Openpli not implement their own splash screen?

Because it is the manufacturers logo.

You're asking the wrong question, it is not "why do OpenPLi not implement their own logo", it is "why do other images feel the need to rub their pole so much"...

Thanks mate....that way it works.

I reminded that the Vu+ Zero doesn't have a physical button to start the update (different from other Vu+ models I use), so that file is necessary to force the flashing, otherwise it's ignored.

Once you know how to create these Vu+ splash screen images (they are simply bitmaps, add a .bmp extension to open in an image editor) you can flash your own.. ;)

Make sure to keep for the new modified image the same bytes size and image dimensions as the original.

Yes thanks.....already did so. :)

Yes very true. But once an owner (like myself) has flashed his VU+ with an other image other than OpenPli (which I have found to be very good and fast booting as well unlike the others i have tried)and afterwards opts to install OpenPli is not good for OpenPli itself to have another image's Splash screen together. My opinion. Thank you once again.

No.

Because many image builders add their own splash-screen it would be good if PLi would add the manufactures screen (just as OpenViX does). It's a few minutes setup in the build environment to arrange that once and for all, so all would be helped and asking the same question over and over again would be avoided.

It has been asked many times before, and PLi never came with a good answer why they deny such a simple service.

Manufacturers controll BSP, they can put splash if they like. Some already do that.

It might be a good idea to ask the ones that haven't done this until now to do this in the future.
