New model receivers are starting to have FBC Tuners, f.i. Vu+ 4K boxes.

I see that a FBC Tuner has 2 LNB Inputs, so.... If I don't want to use it as FBC.... Is is possible to use it as a standard DUAL tuner, to have 2 LNB inputs from different SATs ?

If it's possible, correct me if I'm wrong, using standard LNBs and 1.0 diseqc switches on a Vu+ Ultimo 4K ,will mean 24 LNBs ?

( 6 tuners (2 FBC + 1 DUAL S2 = 4 + 2) )

Not entirely correct. Two LNB inputs (for example on the Solo 4K) means 2 FBC tuners.

You can connect a legacy enviroment to a tuner, a unicable LNB, or a Unicable/JESS switch.

If you connect a legacy environment, it will behave like a standard single tuner, with the same limitations as a normal tuner. It can't be any different, you only have a single coax connected to the tuner, so only one quadrant can be tuned at the same time.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Not entirely correct. Two LNB inputs (for example on the Solo 4K) means 2 root-tuners.

The other 6 are leaf-tuners; they can be configured to be connected to one of the root tuners, and will act as 'looped-through'.

This means you have the same (dis-)advantages as when looping-through conventional tuners; i.e. no limitations when an Unicable/JESS environment has been connected (provided there are enough free SCR's), or only able to look at the same 'quadrant' as the root-tuner in case of conventional LNB's.

But If I don't want to do either PiP or Recording and watching different signals, I just want to receive one thing at the same time, could I use the 2 FBC inputs to have 8 LNBs (using a different 4input diseqc 1.0 switche in each tuner input)?

If you connect a legacy environment, it will behave like a standard single tuner, with the same limitations as a normal tuner. It can't be any different, you only have a single coax connected to the tuner, so only one quadrant can be tuned at the same time.

Of course, that's the only thing I'm 100 % sure,

They behave like a legacy tuner, so you can do anything you can do with  a standard tuner, and that includes connecting to some sort of DiseqC switch environment. But the same limitations apply, once it is tuned, you are limited to the same satellite, same quadrant for additional recordings.

@Rob, I did already say that in my previous post, I didn't say you were limited to a single transponder (which you would be with a standard single legacy tuner). And that is indeed courtesy of the additional 6 leaf tuners which behave liked looped-through tuners.

But why would you not want to use the power of an FBC tuner on the first place?

Because I don't need them.

I have (as my profile photo shows) several dishes, and several LNBs, exactly 21.

I have 5 diseqc 1.0 switches and a standalone LNB for 28ºEast.

I knbow I can use an 1.1 switch and "merge" 16 inputs into one cable, but I prefer to do it separately, 4 LNBs = 1 cable.

So now I use an ET10000 with 4 DVB-S2 tuners, and the old ET9000 with one tuner for 28ºE and other one on a diseqc switch.

On ET10000 I use the TBS5925 too, to get the 28 East on that box (TBS output goes to 9000 input), but I would like to have (in the future) all of them on a single box, but separated into 6 inputs because then I can split some unused inputs, and use it on another box.

So If I had a receiver with 6 LNB inputs, It'd be great.

That's why I asked if a FBC Tuner could be used as a legacy DUAL tuner, because then I'd have 2 FBC (2x2) + a DUAL (2) = 6 LNB Inputs, knowing their limitations (one at time).

You cannot configure an FBC tuner to be a "normal" tuner. It's not necessary because if you only use to first two tuners and configure the two inputs accordingly, they really act as two "normal" tuners anyway. All unused (leaf) tuners will always be configured to be "dynamic loop through" tuners, unless you configure them to be SCR tuners. They will be looped through to tuner A or tuner B whenever it's needed. Many people don't understand the dynamic and automatic nature of the FBC looping through, don't let them confuse you!

In other words, simply configure tuner A and tuner B, and the six additional tuners you will get for free (no configuration, no hassle) and you can't even turn it off. Really you should leave the idea of "I don't need FBC so I don't want to configure/enable it". It's all automatic.

And that's why I don't understand that so many people say that you 'need' to have a Jess environment when you have an FBC tuner box.

AFAIK the automated 'configuration on the fly' of the leaf-tuners only applies when there is a conventional LNB-setup. When using Unicable/Jess the leaf-tuners will have to be configured manually to use a dedicated SCR.

Yes, that is exactly correct, but irrelevant here, because TS doesn't have an SCR setup.
