The hd51 has NO support for HEVC in media, so no YouTube etc in HEVC. That is something that Mut@nt will need to fix, like VU+ and Edision did.

I think it is the same for hd1265.

Is it fixable with a driver update from Mutant?

So, i have tested OpenATV 5.3 and it does play HEVC media in fullHD and UHD 10/bit mkv and mp4 container. But it uses gst 1.9.0. drivers are the same as PLi. YouTube was still limited to 720P. So, there is something wrong with VP9 driver support maybe.

OpenPLi 5 will use gstreamer 1.8.3, we will probably move to the unstable gstreamer versions in the nightly's once a 5 stable is released.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

But Youtube uses the VP9 not HEVC.

Little chance that that will work too.

Will version 5 make 4K streaming on YouTube possible for the HD51?

OpenPLi 5 has newer GStreamer where h265 is available.

So if Google uses h265/hevc and there is a way to get 4K (youtube plugin or whatever) it might work.

Does the new GStreamer supports VP9, because YouTube uses it for FullHD and 4K. The HD51 has supports both formats, will it work out of the gate when OpenPLI 5 comes available?

No, you're missing the point. For HEVC (and VP9) playback, the manufacturer needs to add support. We already tried HEVC (not VP9) on the hd51 and it simply doesn't work. Gstreamer is not the problem. I already asked support to them.

True, the hd1265 also doesn't play HEVC as well. See the updated http://openpli.org/wiki/comparison

Currently only VU+ 4k models and Edision OSmini+ and OSmega play HEVC in media.

All currently supported receivers, except the DM500HD, DM800SE, DM7020HD and the Wetek Play.

DM's don't have enough flash, Wetek doesn't provide support the new gstreamer.

Xpeed LX class S2/C and et7000 mini maybe also no OpenPLi 5. Manufacturers need to update their BSP layers.
Xtrend ET-9200, ET-8000, ET-10000, OpenPliPC on Ubuntu 12.04

gents - is a release date OpenPLi5.0 nearing or nothing can be said still?

Hopefully Xtrend , both ET7000 and ET10000 will be supported and what about the kernel to be used?

Seems that 3 other image builders are using kernel 4.8.3 ( ET10000 ) but reading this topic drivers compiled for 4.8.3 seem to be older than the current drivers for the 4.0.x kernel ?

The kernel used will be exactly the same.

As usual, the major difference is in the OE version (building process) used. Most users will see no difference at all.
