No. This file is only a backup file that is used to temporary store the EPG data when Enigma restarts. It has no other function.

If you need this because your box crashes, I suggest you solve that problem instead of work around it?

It would be useful in case of power cuts too, which we cannot have influence on.

Doesn't the EPGrefresh plugin have an option to save the EPG?

I'm not sure. I have never installed it.

I always thought it had to do only with EIT EPG but maybe it can be used just to save Rytec EPG.

Can somebody who uses it please confirm? Thank you.

Thanks.

I would like EPGrefresh to automatically save EPG once a day but there is probably no way to set a time, is there?

A fixed time? No, doesn't look like it. Question is if that is a problem, it happens in the background, so if it happens once an hour or once a day isn't really relevant?

Volgens mij gebeurd dat nu al. Ik heb op hdd een file EPG.dat staan met een timestamp.
De instelling van deze filestamp staat in de plug-in settings: "aanvang automatische import" (tweede van boven)

Vu+ Ultimo 4K (4 TB HD, DVBS FSB, DVBC FBC & OpenPli 9),

Xtrend ET10000 (1 DVBS works via ethernet & OpenPli 9),

Xtrend ET10000 (DVBT2 & OpenPli 9, located in Thailand). Only latest stable releases.

Xtrend ET10000 (works via ethernet & OpenPli 9) and

Xtrend ET8000 (1 TB HD, 1 DVBT2 & works via ethernet & OpenPli 9)

Wouldn't it be an idea to be able to select the location of epg.dat in menu-settings-system-EPG settings (so you can choose to store the file on HDD/USB/share etc)

The location can be stored in /etc/enigma/settings using config.misc.epgcache_filename=/media/usb/epg.dat

Yes, it would.

Can you add it to the todo list here: https://github.com/O.../enigma2/issues so we don't forget it? And add a link to this thread please.

This option has been available in OpenViX for years. Also the option to delete epg.dat and clear the epgcache in a case of corruption.

Is my understanding correct that if epg.dat is saved on HDD then in case of power cut EPG should be readily available when power is restored?

Yes it is readily available after a power outage. Obviously only the most recently saved version though, not the epg cache at the time the power was lost, unless you are using some form of plugin that forces a scheduled save.
