Some users ask how to replace the splashscreen of other images after the user tested another images from other image-builders and afterwards (again) install an OpenPLi image.

After installing OpenPLi they will still face the picture of that other image builder on reboot.
These imagebuilders are in fact so proud of themselves that they replace the standard splashscreen with their own splashscreen

With the attached file, you can flash back the default factory splashscreen.

This flashing is basically safe because there is nothing flashed except the factory splash screen)

This file is suitable for models:

duo2, solo2, solo4k, solose, ultimo, ultimo4k, uno, uno4k and zero.

Just unpack the attached zipfile on an USB stick and start the flash procedure on your Vu+ model

I guess we need a wiki entry for this because other models have the same issue.

We need a new wiki. ;)

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

Hi Pedro any chance of making a cure for an XP1000 splash screen? Or maybe an universal one that accepts a bmp image of certain specs?

There are some insecure imagemakers that need to put their name on my screen... openatv, openspa, Vix etc... Asked on their fora how to remove their splash when I install another image.... received no usefull answer... some posts even removed...

Please help

We're planning a section in the wiki with all original splash images, and instructions on how to restore them.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Nope, they will be added if and when we find them.

You can ping Rick Hunter if you have a splash image available for your box, and instructions on how to flash it.

The question was about the XP1000 splash image (topic hijack ;)).

So I have 2 XP1000's .. One has been used to explore various images... The other one is still original inclusive the splash screen.....!!!

But....

I have no idea how to copy the splash screen off the image... nor how to flash a new one... Am willing to contribute but need help...

Sorry about he topic hijack but this was the nearest topic I could find and Pedro must have a deep knowledge of the image build... seen his excellent backup suite...

The vendor boot image is flashed into the boot partition, and isn't that easy to get hold of. You need to mount the correct flash partition (readonly), and copy the mvi file out. But that gives you the file itself, not the file(s) needed to flash it again.

Found some topics:

https://www.opena.tv...n-moeglich.html

and

https://linuxsat-sup...-splash-screen/

So it is not an MVI file but a bitmap... I tried making a simple bitmap and renaming it but could not get the XP1000 (with openpli) to accept this splash screen with the boor procedure described...

Maybe the kernel is modified as well?

you can extract the bitmap out of your XP1000 with splash screen using this procedure, on my box it looks likethis ,should be similiar for xp1000

root@mbmini:/var/volatile/tmp# cat /proc/mtd
dev: size erasesize name
mtd0: 07900000 00020000 "rootfs"
mtd1: 08000000 00020000 "entire_device"
mtd2: 00600000 00020000 "kernel"
mtd3: 00080000 00010000 "cfe"
mtd4: 00200000 00010000 "splash"
mtd5: 00080000 00010000 "macadr"
mtd6: 00080000 00010000 "nvram"
mtd7: 00040000 00010000 "bootconfig"
mtd8: 00040000 00010000 "facconfig"

first check which partition is splash, on my box it is mtd4, now just copy the partition into a file

root@mbmini:/var/volatile/tmp# cat /dev/mtd4 > splash.bmp
root@mbmini:/var/volatile/tmp# ls -al
drwxrwxrwt 3 root root 160 Jul 26 08:34 .
drwxrwxrwt 7 root root 140 Jan 1 1970 ..
srwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 Jan 1 1970 .listen.camd.socket
srwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 Jan 1 1970 .listen.ciplus.socket
drwx------ 2 root root 80 Jul 26 08:23 .oscam
srwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Jul 26 08:23 camd.socket
srw-rw-rw- 1 root root 0 Jan 1 1970 hotplug.socket
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2097152 Jul 26 08:35 splash.bmp
root@mbmini:/var/volatile/tmp#

the splash screen is usually 1.244.216 bytes so you can cut it to that size and rename it to splash.bin if xp1000 takes only splash.bin

-sh: /var/volatile/tmp#: No such file or directory
root@xp1000:~# cat /proc/mtd
dev: size erasesize name
mtd0: 08000000 00020000 "complete"
mtd1: 00600000 00020000 "kernel"
mtd2: 07a00000 00020000 "rootfs"

I only have this...??

And this is the normal case. Only few boxes show splash mtd device.
I think it's possible to get the splash bitmap with a serial cable. But this is nothing for normal users. Would be better to find the bitmap somewhere.

I think I am one of few people who might actually be able to do that,....  The serial cable trick am retired ICT engineer... repaired PDP, Vax etc up to component level....

Just need guidance but.... To begin with I do not see an RS 232 connection on the XP1000...

Mhm, that's not good. I don't have the box. Most likely it's somehow possible to internally connect a serial cable to the box, but I don't know how.
If you have a serial connection, open it and start the box. Immediately press ctrl+c several times. A cfe prompt should be visible. With help you can see the available commands. It's long time ago I used it, but I'm quite sure that there is a command to dump the splash image to an attached USB stick.
Warning: Don't do anything else there. Otherwise you might brick your box!
