Hi!

Since I used the Update function on my VUPlus Duo 2 in early March 2017, it began with sporadic "Tune Failed" errors. Switching to other programs and switching back brought back the picture most of the time.

Then it began to annoy with timer recordings (0 bytes with tune failed).

I then mainly used the DVB-C tuner which after some days began to show block artefacts and very huge BER in "Sat-Finder". I installed every Openpli-Update during March hoping for better times, but no help.

Changing the Vu+Duo2-Sat-Tuner to a new bought one helped for 1-2 days, then the "Tune Failed" came back. Plugging the Cable into any of the two sat-tuners did not help, Connecting the Vu Duo in the room where the VU Solo works helped for some hours, then "Tune Failed" again.

The Vu Solo works on the cables in the VU Duo Room, so the cables and switches seem to be OK.

I read about many problems with the Vuplus Duo, including Capacitors (cannot see any faulty parts or even the same parts an on some pictures on the net), hot tuners (here, too), Diseqc-settings (sometimes works after changing some Pause settings, then again not) or Spaun switches not working with Vu+.

I flashed for testing Original VU+, Blackhole, OpenATV, and VTi, but the same error.

What do You think about it? Strange, that a possible Hardware Problem begins with a Firmware Update.

Thank You for any Help.

Michael

Is it a Duo or a Duo2, as you seem to be mixing the two?

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

The faulty receiver is a Duo2, the working receiver is a Solo2.

The last Duo2 driver update was on Januari 5th, so way before March.

Does the box have an internal harddisk? If so, you can try disconnecting it, and see if you see a change in behaviour? Intermittent Tune Failed errors are sometimes an indication of a failing power supply. The old Duo was notorious for it, the ET9000 is also developing such issues now.

OK, I disconnected the HDD and started the box.

Tune OK. After 30 minutes I zapped again through the list, Tune Failed again.

I zapped in Satfinder plugin through transponders and sats until a channel locked again.

Then I started a manual service scan on each satellite. Some channels are gone, e.g. on 19.2E no "ZDF*" channels, but e.g. on 28.8E "3sat" or "1-2-3tv" which is found normally on 19.2E.

Smells like a power supply issue, but I'm no expert on the matter.

The tuners are by far the largest power users in the box, so any issues will pop up there first. Perhaps you can have it checked in a electronics repair shop?

Yesterday I tried to connect a cable from the Tuner plug's shield to the ground connector on my AVR, and the VU+ worked for several hours.

I thought that I found the problem (insufficient grounding of the satellite cables could irritate diseqc).

Today: Nothing again. I checked the tuner plugs with a voltmeter: 13.x / 18.x Volts if You are switching through the channels.

Finally I bought a new receiver (Edision OS Mega) and it worked out of the box with no problems. It shows even more dB signal strength than the VU+. OK, this is not a calibrated measuring instrument, but there were no block artefacts in the cable channels nor in some of the weaker 28°E channels.

I will do some tests with the VU+ at other people's dishes and perhaps send it to a repair service for checking.

Thank You for Your help!

Your VU+ Duo 2 suffered from capacitors problem, replace the capacitors and it will back to live.

Got it back from "Repair". They flashed the Original VU+ Image and tested the box and found no errors at all. To be sure they even changed the Sat-Tuner to a new one.

At my home, this piece of #$!§% doesn't work at all now, even HDMI now only works when connected directly to the TV. Through the Yamaha AVR there's no picture anymore.

You said that you mainly used the DVB-C tuner and you report problem with it and they replace the repair shop say that they change the SAT-tuner?

I think that the repair could not test the DVB-C tuners.

The problem can also come from the DVB-C cable, would be nice if you can test your DVB-C cable with someone else box.

For the HDMI issue go into the HDMI-CEC plugin and clear the settings, reduce the resolution of the HDMI for exemple to 720p 50Hz (if you are in Europe) and connect it back to your Yamaha AVR.
