It might be a good suggestion to report to the enduser that Oscam is being installed direct after download of a setting-list.
Apparently some users didn't notice this, as this fact is nowhere mentioned in the GUI. Only the experienced users are aware of the fact that a default cam, in this case Oscam, is installed during the first setup.

It is not installed at first setup,... It is already there before the setup.... ;)

@Littlesat
Even then, it would be nice for some people that, at the end of the setup a message would be displayed like 'A default cam (Oscam) has been installed during setup'. ;)

Why.... We alsomdo not tell tuxtxt in installed, gmepg.... And mediaplayer plugin.... I think it was better to communicate this as news topic then add it in a static anoying wizard popup...

I agree that such info should not be part of the setup procedure.

Instead, as of the next release, we should start producing change logs and release notes again, like we did for the "gemstone" series. That seems to be a better way of communicating with the users.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Hi,

Would be nice to inform end-users that a default cam has been installed mentioning the URL to access the configuration of OScam.
OScam is, unfortunately, not plug&play with card like CCcam was. So for sure end-user will need to configure OScam to use its own card, and to achieve this he will need to know how to access it.

Since OScam is now the default cam, would be nice in the softcam screen to look for an parse the OScam default information file:

/tmp/.oscam/oscam.version

Looking for and displaying when this file exist:

ConfigDir:      xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
WebifPort:      yyyy

That's the only reliable source to display such information when OScam is running. I agree that it is also possible to change the default TempDir but only few people change it.

Oscam is even better configurable then CCcam.... The user can change everything via the webif... instead of ftp-ing configs to the box.... In our standard config normal cards should work...

People can connect Viaccess, Seca, Conax, Iderto card and they will work with your setup out-of-the-box?

How people can know which port is predefined with the pre-installed OScam by OpenPLi without FTP-ing?

I know that OScam as more possibility than CCcam, and it is the right choice but pre-install it silently without letting know end-user how to access OScam webif is a mistake from OpenPLi team side. You need to inform people what is your default settings and especially the default port define for the OScam that you pre-install.

I have this in my last ipkgupgrade.log:

Collected errors:
 * pkg_run_script: package "softcam-support" postinst script returned status 1.
 * opkg_configure: softcam-support.postinst returned 1.

Is it related to these changes with oscam?

Although OScam is extremely versatile, it does not run all cards out of the box. In Holland only Seca3 and Irdeto is prevalently used (so these are predefined). In Germany, Italy and Uk NDS is used so there NDS configs are prevalent. In irder to get your cards working you should visit fora from those respective countries and find IScam configs for that region.

VU+ users running VTi can use OScam Butler plugin and create configs for most European card systems. Simply ftp the created config to your PC and distribute them to any OScam operated Enigma2 box...

That is not done for us as such Butler plugin might include some key stuff to get these cards running.... In fact you cannot compare VTi with OpenPLi as VTi does from the beginning not following the GPL licenses....

In addition to this discussion, to whether or not and how users should be informed about the softcam that is installed, this thread by TS suggests that the current state of information is clearly not  enough (all be it, n=1). Although OSCam has user friendly web interface, I think that (basic)users in general, don't/won't access it and when they do, are overwhelmed by it's possibilities, not to say, scared out of there wits ;)

@Littlesat
Even then, it would be nice for some people that, at the end of the setup a message would be displayed like 'A default cam (Oscam) has been installed during setup'. ;)

So IMHO I think @Frenske (still) has a point, about informing users after or during setup.

We have the forum to inform and indeed this was one of the thinks that should be informed (or basically should be delayed for openpli5).... next changes like this are for now "on hold".... Op Openpli4 we only made bug fixes from now on....
