Since my TBS5925 is broken beyond repair (at least according to TBS), I am offered the successor, TBS5927

Has anyone experience yet with this USB tuner?
Is there any difference with the TBS5925?

I know the TBS5927 does not support DVBS2X, anyone know a USB-tuner that also supports DVB-S2X?

And are there any comparable products? So with Multistream/PLS support?

I'd like to know if the driver 'dvb-usb-tbs (1.4-r0)' also supports the TBS5927, is this the right repository?

This was the response I got from TBS:

If you are using with linux just one package it support all of our tuner card you can try our latest open source driver :'
#wget http://www.tbsdtv.com/download/document/linux/media_build-latest.tar.bz2
# sudo rm -rf /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/media/
#tar jxvf media_build-latest.tar.bz2
#cd media_build
#./install.sh
#reboot

Since he is saying "just one package it support all of our tuner card" I guess the new TBS5927 will work.

That's quite a bold statement, every kernel and every arch needs to have it's own driver compiled. Their driver is very probably compiled for some well-known x86 distributions, that's never going to work.

I understand. And I thought so either that those commands wouldn't work.

What I still don't know is if the driver who is already present in the feed could be compatible with the TBS5927.

I might better ask this on Github? But first I want to be sure I ask it on the repository where the driver for OpenPLi is compiled from.

And I'm not sure if it is allowed to ask such a question there.

What is important which kernel is running on your receiver. If that kernel supports your TBS tuner, you're lucky. It may have to be enabled, but that's mostly no problem.

The TBS never submitted their drivers to linux kernel.

So you can only get TBS with a patched kernel.

I have succesfully used a TBS5925 like I mentioned above, so I guess that means the kernel (4.0.1) supports (all?) TBS tuners.

You mean in simple words it's not implemented on OpenPLi?

Or what do you mean with a patched kernel?

That means that patches should be applied in the building process of the kernel. Problem is that each kernel version needs it's own patches and the building process of the kernel is controlled by the manufacturer (BSP).

I still don't fully understands what that means, but I guess that's a bit too difficult for my knowledge.

More important for me is to know if the driver that works for the TBS5925 also is going to work with the TBS5927.

I understand no-one can fully confirm that.
Would be an expensive guess to just try it.

Just in time, I almost bought one.
What is the reason? Can it be solved?

The new card has different hardware components, so it requires different driver!

TBS can offer support and support by submiting patches.

And you said that they never submit drivers, so I think buying a TBS5927 for use on Enigma2 is a no-go.

I'd beter buy a Octagon SF4008 I guess, but I'm not sure if it suits all my other demands.

Have you solved the issue? Is it possible to use the TBS5927 with the newly released OpenPli 6 ?
