Seems like a good topic to publish the howto in the wiki

Already in the wiki, as part of the hardware specs: https://wiki.openpli.org/comparison

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

Not sure I understand this reply. ;)

Whether or not a box supports transcoding (and if so, what type) is part of the hardware specs.

Whether or not a particular transcoded stream works in a particular situation using a particular device is imho pointless to write down, as there are millions of permutations, with all the different factors that determine whether or not it works.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

I´ve now an uno 4k SE and I´ve red the box is able to make transcoding.  But if I go to menu transcoding I get a message that the box can´t do that. Is that a bug in openpli for uno 4k/uno 4k SE or  don´t  the openpli team have access to the neccessary driver für uno 4k?

Receiver:2 x Uno4k SE (PLI 7.3 rel), 1 x ET9200 (PLI 4.0), NAS: 2 x QNAP 410, TV: LG 65C8llla, LG 47LB570V, LG 42LM615S, Sound: Yamaha RX-v663, Teufel System 5 THX

What do you mean by "menu transcoding"? Which OpenPLi version?

I Use 6.1 RC

in Menu/settings/expert/transcoding setup

Or is that the wrong menu to config transcoding for streaming?

It hasn't been added to the setup plugin as a transcoding capable machine. I've fixed that for the next build.

You could try via the web interface, it also has a transcoding setup menu. If it doesn't work, the streamproxy also has to be adapted to support the SE.

Have tested it now with WEBif from remote and it seem to be worked than. But from remote side I have man interrupts during watching. I´will test it this evening at my home

It is right that when I use streaming from the openWEBif and have configured transcoding for example with port 8002 that  the m3u8 file doesn´t use the 8002 port?

I´ve no experience with transcoding in the past

Quite possible, but you'll have to ask the guys from OpenWebif, we haven't made it.

When you change the bit rate or any other feature, the transcoding stops and must be setup and buffered again. That will take about 12 seconds. It's unavoidable.

It is right that when I use streaming from the openWEBif and have configured transcoding for example with port 8002 that  the m3u8 file doesn´t use the 8002 port?

Of course. But in practise there is no good reason to use another port.

I don´t understand the port settings for transcoding

without transcoding the streaming of live TV normal goes on port 8001 and streaming of an recordec movie goes over Port 80. I saw that in the m3u8 files (streamxxx and ts...)

When I setup a transcoding port I can choose an other port (80 is not allowed). With that new port transcoding of recorded movies is possible but how can I stream a transcodes live TV. It doesn´t work on the port which I´ve setup in the transcoding menu

I think I haven´t understand the complete structure of transcoding and the flow of the data inside the box

Or does transcoding only works with recorded movies?

No absolutely not. Before I need to explain a lot (again), what receiver are you using?

Then you will have VU+ transcoding, using the streamproxy, which means, by default, for streaming port 8001 will be used, for live transcoding port 8002 and for transcoding recordings port 8003.

Transcoding recorded movie on port 8003 works, but live transcoding on Port 8002 doesnt work. I see an login message from my VLC Player but no video data will come

Must I setup a transcoding port for live transcoding. I can´t found a setup point for that

The interface between your browser/vlc and the transcoding engine is handled by the streamproxy program. It will listen (by default) on 8002 and 8003 and forward the requests.

Try this:

netstat -l

and

logread

I am fairly sure it works, I tested it on an uno4kse last week.
