I am thinking about getting Seagate Barracuda ST4000LM024 and I was wondering how reliable that drive is, Seagate 2.5" drives in general, or high capacity 2.5" drives in general?

I'd prefer 2.5" over 3.5" for lower power use, and hdd over ssd for price.

In general, standard desktop (or laptop) drives will be slightly less reliable, since they aren't made for 24/7 operation. But if you don't record that much, and put the disk asleep when not in use, there shouldn't be much difference.

 

Having said that, I don't have experience with that particular Seagate 2,5" disk. My HD2400 has an ST1500LM006 HN-M, which is a 1.5TB Seagate disk, just about 2 years old, and it is starting to fail (it reports startup issues when it comes out of hibernation).

Have you considered a dedicated 3.5" PVR HDD?
e.g. http://www.seagate.c.../video-3-5-hdd/ but there are more.

Kun je niet helemaal een op een overnemen, Blackblaze gebruikt zijn disks in storage systemen, en die zijn anders in gebruik dan een disk in een STB. Maar heeft geeft wel een indicatie.
