Dear all,

it all started with a failed reboot.

My 7020HD was on a rather old (2013 I think) OpenPLI 4.0 image and working just fine . Don't touch it if ain't broken attitude.

Then, that failed reboot soon tranformed in no reboot. It stopped on the splash screen, at the time when the GUI should load and start (Front display with the bar halfway through).

Then not even that far.

I read about resetting to factory default the BIOS and I tried also that, but with no result.

Corrupted image I thought. So, I decided to try one of the latest. At least it was a good occasion to upgrade at last.

Very nice indeed advancements of the image, I must reckon. My old image is pale in comparison! :)

Fact is, randomly, and certainly if I reboot, my box still gets stuck while rebooting at the same halfway place: flowers and no WebIF, no remote control feedback.

Nevertheless, access through telnet is granted and all services and demons are up and running. I can do anything form the command line.

When I manage to go pass this point, the receiver works well as it used to before these happenings.

Any idea on how to get out of this troubled situation?

Reloading the firmware and partially reconfiguring the box every time I need to reboot is not that convenient.

Of course, I hope it is not a hardware related problem. One of the sad possibilities to consider, though.

I thank you in advance for any help and suggestion!

Sleepy

If you can access the box via telnet, issue the command "dmesg", and attach the output here so we can have a look.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

Thank you. Good advice.

I will do it as soon it happens again.

Now the box is working, but soon I fear something will get wrong again.

I had to switch off the Box and the problem occurred again.

I see that there are some ECC and table errors, but I do not know if this is the possible cause or it is unessential. From what I see googleing it seems not, at first sight, but I do not know.

The log:

I don't see an immediate issue, but I've never had a DMM box, so it might be something specific. We don't have any DMM box left in the team as well. Perhaps someone else has a clue.

Most likely you suffer from a bad block in the NAND menory. Only rhing you can do is connect serially with DreamUp. Set Bad Block detection to ON. After completion reflash the second stage loader and reflash the image... If this solves the problem you can use your box as usual. On the downside: when this occurs it normally means the NAND chip is dying and more and more unrecoverable blocks will appear.

Thank you!

This seems a reasonable path.

I need some time to do things with a bit of attention and now it is time to go to bed and in any case never fuss with this kind of stuff when you want to go to bed soon.

But I will try ASAP.

Is the second stage loader in the official firmware (nfi file)?

Or can it be found separately reliably somewhere else (I have googled a bit and it seems so).

Thank you again for the advice. I hope the NAND will not let me down too soon...

The SSL is included in the original NFI (savest option anyway) but can be found online as well...
