Because Windows skipped 9, we could skip 5...

See the releasenotes on our Wiki.

OpenPLi 5 was not released to the public because we used it for our development to make OpenPLi 6

To be clear, for the following brands/models there will not be an OpenPLi 6.0:

  • DM500HD, DM7020HD
  • DM800SE (insufficient flash space)
  • Xsarius Fusion HD (under discussion, tbd)
  • Golden Interstar (all models, no BSP support from the manufacturer for the OE upgrade)
  • Wetek Play (no BSP available with Gstreamer 1.x support)

OpenPLi 4 will remain available for these models, once OpenPLi 6.0 Release is available, we'll have a look to see if we can find a way to refresh things like satellites.xml, channel lists, picons, etc for OpenPLi 4 without having to build new images.

added DM500 and 7020; fixed semantics for gutemine

It's a decision that manufacturer should take.

They need to contact voorzitter AT openpli.org

A major release update is always a new flash. I minor release update (from 6.0 to 6.1) can be upgraded online.

Entertaining as usual - the Flash of the dm7020 is twice as big as the Flash of the dm8000

Indeed, you are entertaining as usual. And that is about the extend of your contribution. Again, as usual.

The remark about the flash was only about the DM800SE.

I was hoping with new release also kernel will be updated

My box is Formuler F1, kernel is still 4.7.6, on some other images is 4.10.

so from first hand, why is that a case ?

De BSP's (the hardware abstraction layers) are maintained by the manufacturer, and they have chosen to use 4.7.6 drivers. Usually that is because of stability, newer isn't always better. It could be that the 4.10 drivers are development beta drivers.
