From what I understand (I don't have need to boot other images) you either need OpenPLi 6 in flash, or a latest release of another image.
Multiboot systems always suck, in that they boot the OS from one image, and then start the rest from another. Compatibility issues waiting to happen. Which is why we don't support it.

Just try, you can always go back (but I wouldn't see any problems for it, the hardware should be sufficient) https://openpli.org/.../xtrend/ET9x00/

It looks the same as OpenPLi 4 (updates are in the underlying "engines" like gstreamer/python etc). So it doesn't look different, but under the hood it is new and updated to the latest version.
When you flash the old image is completly overwritten, so do use autobackup if you want your settings (and plugins) restored before you do the flash

With enough per-box changes you can make anything work. You could probably make it run on a DM600pvr if you really try hard enough.
But it is exactly what we don't want, we simply don't have the manpower to maintain, update and support lots of different "code bases", one for every box. And reverse engineer and fix everything every time there is (for example) an OE update. For the same reason we don't allow "IF boxtype THEN something special" code to creep into our Enigma2 code.
Sometimes you have to make decisions, and stick to your principles.
I do understand the path to not support the dmm boxes any longer, but the excuse you're using is not valid.
Have a look at these commands:
find /usr/lib/python2.7 |grep .exe
find /usr/lib/python2.7 |grep ".py$"
Those files don't have any use on the boxes, and consume just the space which is needed to fit the image in flash.
Off course a box with only 64MB is too small now a days. But if you use it just for watching DVB-x and use a softcam it still works fine...

What? .exe files on the box? WTF?
And I didn't say you can not create an image that will fit, I said our image doesn't fit. And we will not make special images for special boxes, we don't want to, and we feel we have good reasons for that. YMMV.

Yes, I saw that. I just don't get WTF they are doing there. And I agree we don't need to python source for all site-packages either.

I don't think we need the pip installer on the box either?

There are more .py and other files that can go away to make space.
Eg: diet on OWIF: https://github.com/E...s/pull/13/files
Or even diet program on every e2Openplugins: https://github.com/E...nplugins/pull/1 (since 2013!!!!)

And for what we need space now ? Btw - install only one language is cca 3MB free...
It was never accepted to make separate packages for languages.
Anyway you are right, few MB nobody will miss now.
Lets focus or real issues.
