First thoughts is openpli 6 works really well. But as somebody who has migrated to openpli 6 I have an issue. So I have put openpli 6 on both my zgemma 2s and my zgemma i55. Then I have loaded iptvplayer on both system as follows

opkg update && opkg install python-html python-textutils
rm -rf /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/IPTVPlayer
wget -O - http://iptvplayer.vl...ythonX.X.tar.gz | tar xzf - -C /tmp
cp -r /tmp/iptvplayer-for-e2.git/IPTVPlayer /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions
rm -r /tmp/iptvplayer-for-e2.git
sync
killall -9 enigma2

This all works great on both system. So after the reboot the IPTVPlayer is there via  menu plugins. So click on this and IPTVPayer says an upgrade is needed. So nothing surprising there. So this is where the two boxes diverge. On the i55 I click ok a few screens later its install rtmpdump (whatever that is), say yes and it installs, and you move onto the next thing that needs to be installed. And eventually after many braindead presses of the OK button IPTV is successfully installed. Not quite the same for the Zgemma2s. Here you get to installing rtmpdump and it installs and then it asks you if you want to install rtmpdump again and then you get into a loop.. No matter how much you agree it keeps asking you 'do you want to install rtmpdump. So you click on no instead and get into another similar loop with the next package to be installed. Note the package seems to install but it just loops. I can only assume this is an openpli issue for the Zgemma Star 2s as the Zgemma i55 works through everything perfectly?

I think this topic has the wrong subject. It's about IPTV, a third party, unsupported package.

Also brillant, "killall enigma2". The quickest way to data corruption...

Changed the title.

of course i could have done 'reboot' and that would have worked just as well. You have to appreciate that not everybody knows the finesse of one action over the other, me included

Nope, reboot also kills enigma.

There is only one way to properly stop enigma, and that is with "init 4". Or if you just need a restart, with "Restart" or "Restart Enigma" from the menu.

I assume you got these instructions from somewhere, it just amazes us what floats around on the internet...

wanwizard, I appreciate ye folks know all this stuff. But you have to consider the guys who are using openpli. I have used openpli for at least 6 years, I know how to telnet, I know how to load ipks, in the fabric of things I kinda know how it all ties together. But you give us far to much credit when you suggest we know how one function impacts over another. I did design telecom networks, I certainly didn't expect the operators to understand them, I expected them to be able to operate them. They didn't design them.

and wanwizard you promised that your new telnet worked beyond the horrible basics. But you lied. It is your telnet of past provided. Busybox stuff. Very muffin related

wanwizard, can you please save my sanity and explain how I can update my 'non-computer' brother so he can use a proper telnet command on openpli 6

I apologize profusely for the tone I used earlier. It was after many hours of frustration trying to explain basics such as unzipping over the phone to someone trying to program a zgemma, to end up in a situation when a wget command didn't execute at the end of it all.  Wan Wizard you have been hugely helpful and I vented frustration where it was not deserved. In fact the problem, after some investigation, was the wget command failed because the IPTV provider didn't accept the command, and had nothing to do with OpenPli at all. I cannot how sorry I am for how I phrased my response to you. Ye folks do great work, OpenPli is my absolute favourite, and I am most sorry

i do wonder wan wizard, if you have any thoughts on how the openpli 6 on the zgemma i55 (when installing iptvplayer) works perfectly and then when installing iptvplayer on the zgemma 2s simply refuses to work on openpli6?

No clue, I don't have time to watch TV, let along streams. Never even seen iptvplayer, so no clue what it exactly does.

I can only assume some driver related issue, as the software above that is the same for both boxes.

OK, Mipsel, I presume new, hard etc. so....

cd /tmp
wget http://iptvplayer.pl/resources/ffmpeg3.2.2_mipsel_fpu_hard_openssl1.0.2_dash_librtmp_native_rtmp.tar.gz
tar -xvf ffmpeg3.2.2_mipsel_fpu_hard_openssl1.0.2_dash_librtmp_native_rtmp.tar.gz -C /
rm ffmpeg3.2.2_mipsel_fpu_hard_openssl1.0.2_dash_librtmp_native_rtmp.tar.gz

Then,

ffmpeg -version

If successfully installed ffmpeg:

rm -rf /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/IPTVPlayer
cd /tmp
wget http://iptvplayer.vline.pl/download/update/latest.pythonX.X.tar.gz
tar -xzf latest.pythonX.X.tar.gz -C /tmp
rm latest.pythonX.X.tar.gz
cp -r iptvplayer-for-e2.git/IPTVPlayer /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/IPTVPlayer
rm -rf iptvplayer-for-e2.git/IPTVPlayer
sync
reboot

Do tell...

Just a question: what is special about ffmpeg3.2.2_mipsel_fpu_hard_openssl1.0.2_dash_librtmp_native_rtmp.tar.gz that the ffmpeg and libs we build for the image aren't sufficient?

Not sure - I am but an amateur - possibly SSS's patches? He is very careful and conservative, in a sense that he values stability first...

Which sounds like a very good plan. That is why I'm wondering why we shouldn't have those already in the image, then we can add iptvplayer to the feeds as well, as soon as samsamsam is ready to setup his git repo.

It's not necessary - every so often add a newer version of IPTV Player and voila... updates are quick and easy from within the plugin itself...
