Yeah and they either decided themselves to limit the resolution to 720, or the hardware (from Broadcom) has the limitation. Now, what is exactly the question?

It is a remark not a question ... I deplore on STB sold at  high price like VU Ultimo 4K,  this unusual and new fonction HDMI IN,  works only in 720P mode ... That's all,. and to argue it is a problem of lame protection is not true. I suppose the possibility of record in full 1080p from a private HD camcorder is not so exagerated . And it is a pity on a High quality STB like VI + Ultimo 4K .

Any way, one way or another, it's not something we have any influence on, so you're barking on the wrong tree.

If you have an HD Camcorder you don't need the HDMI in feature to have the record on your STB, simply copy the file from the camcorder to the internal HDD of your STB (or to a NAS) all camcorder have internal memory of SD card capability.

Moreover HDMI In is not a that new qnd unusual feature, probably new for VU+ product but other brands propose it since many years.  My Golden Interstar GI-LX3 already have it too.

The et10000 and hd2400 have had it for years. Also with 720p limitation, btw. And also of limited use because it doesn't support HDCP (which is quite understandable).

It wouldn't suprise me if this was a hardware limitation, implemented by Broadcom under pressure of the content lobby...

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

dm7080 has hdmi-in also for years, later dm900.
Both can record in 1920x1080 from HDMI-In

Then DMM offers it in their drivers. We cannot help here. Tell VU and extrend that they also should provide it in their drivers and/or make it also configurable then...

As there is no OpenPLi for these boxes, that info isn't particularly useful.

I know there is no pli for these boxes. But you were talking about hardware limitation.

That is only interesting information when the SoC's are the same. Which I don't think so, the dm7080 has a newer generation SoC than the et10000 and hd2400.

Both the DM900 and the DM7080 use the BCM7251S, which is the same SoC as in the Mutant HD51 and the Zgemma H7.

So if the DM's can, but the other can't, it is either a design limitation, or a driver limitation. However, both these boxes don't have a HDMI IN, so it's pointless to check with the vendor.
