Functionality to keep alive IPTV HTTP.ts streams.

IPTV streams are very often not very useful to use, because the HTTP connections often interrupts or times outs.

The buffer is helping, but not good enough to keep it alive.

Typical the picture freeze after 1-2 minutes and the "user" must do something active (e.g change channel up and down to get the stream alive again).

In Windows VLC player is there a "Loop function" the user can select to prevent this problem. This feature will make the HTTP connection stay alive in case of interruption or time outs.

I have not yet found any IPTV TS stream on the Internet, that will keep alive for more than max 2 minutes. So this must be a big problem.

I can tell my Internet is a stable 100 Mbit connection.

Other solutions for Enigm2

Plugin IPTV Player: Yes this have a feature for this when rename .TS to M3U8. BUT there is a buffering bug. So you get max 10 minutes before toy gan an error from the software. (No freezing picture)

Plugin: IPTV World: Yes this plugin have 3 payers to select. Player 2 and 3 actually works 100 %. But it can not read all .TS streams ?? In this case the stream never starts. This plugin is also crashing sometimes :-(

So at this moment i can't find any solution that will make IPTV usefull..

Hope you can see the problem and find a working stable solution

The IPTV that you try to use are of poor quality if you have such problem.

First be sure to use: OpenPLi RC6 to test streaming because it works better than OpenPLi 4 (you didn't even mention which OpenPLi version you use and on which hardware).

If you want you can use another external player into OpenPLi.

Simply type:

opkg update
opkg install ffmpeg
opkg install exteplayer3
opkg install enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-serviceapp

Then in the channel list you can use type 5001 or 5002 and with ServiceApp you can configure the external player that you want to use.

And you can also play with different parameters like the buffer size.

Thanks for the information about trying external players into OpenPli.
Ill try that out.

Yes the problem is pool quality. But it seems all streams i have tryed Ever are more or less pool quality ?
All and i mean ALL .TS streams i have tryed do a short interrupt at som time, and the player just give up the stream...picture freeze and does not return again.

Yes, sorry i forgot to mention that i'm on OpenPLi RC6 with hardware ET9000.
I really hoped getting from OpenPLi 4 to OpenPLi RC 6 Would solve the problem. But there is no difference on the IPTV streams.

Anyway OpenPLi RC6 is really great. Thanks for the good work.

I'll Be back here with a status after testing the external players on the IP streams.

Hi,

if you use  free IPV list found over the Internet many people use them and some have a limited number of concurrent user possible (sometimes it is only one), so when you start to watch you drop somebody else connection if the other one zap back to the channel you lost your connection and he retrieves its viewing.

Testing IPTV quality with daily updated list found on the internet is not the better way to get a good idea on how IPTV works.

You can test some public official stream thanks to this list:

EPG ok?

Thank you for the help.

I don't use tvheadend so I cannot answer.

Recording creates 2 streams and some provider limit to only one stream.

EPG it's up to you to properly generates the EPG entries if you want to integrate IPTV in your favorites/bouquets. When properly done, yes it works.

The only thing what you can do is detect if a stream play stops and when this stopped for x seconds try to replay or so...

Seems there is a problem installing the serviceapp ?

root@et9x00:~# opkg install enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-serviceapp
opkg: error while loading shared libraries: /lib/libz.so.1: file too short

Any clue ?

Hi,

Another point is that ET-9000 flash start to become a little bit short if you install many plugins, I didn't check the size of serviceapp and exteplayer3 to be sure that there is still enough flash space on the ET-9000. You will perhaps need to use flashexpander then.
