How to get TP-LINK TL-WN722N v 2.0 working in OpenPli6?

This usb has RTL8188EUS chip onboard, and it seems that driver for that chipset is already included in this image, but I cannot get it working. When I plug it in, under network I cannot see any network adapters connected.

There might be a difference between RTL8188EU and RTL8188EUS.

 

What is the USB ID of that device? Can you login with telnet, plug in the stick, then issue the "dmesg" command, and paste the usb detection log here (if present at all).

Nothing in there. So either the driver isn't installed, doesn't support this device at all, or the device's USB ID isn't in the driver, and it needs a patch.

 

have you checked if the driver is installed. according the the zero's defconfig, it's not in the kernel but supplied as a seperate module. You can check with "opkg info kernel-module-r8188eu". If it says not-installed, install it with "opkg install kernel-module-r8188eu", then try again (a reboot might be needed).

Then the driver doesn't recognise the stick. No clue how that actually works, probably by usb id, but that low-level stuff is beyond me, I haven't written any C in 30 years...

I got it working on my linux mint machine using commands described here:

so it's supposed to work as RTL8188EU chip.

 

lsusb gives me this without stick in the box:

To fix it, the USB ID needs to be added here: https://github.com/M...usb_intf.c#L194

 

It only defines 0x107, 0x108 and 0x109, your stick identifies itself as 0x10c according to your wiki link. You could type "lsusb" to confirm.

Create a pull request, and hope it is merged quickly.

 

edit: I've created a patch, when my buildserver is available I'll compile it for the zero and attach the ipk here so you can test it.

Probably some time tomorrow. I'm doing a first build run for develop today, which runs about 14 hours, still another 3 hours or so. So probably tommorow if I can get around to it.

The patch for the driver works, but for one reason or another the RTL8192EU driver isn't being built for the VUZERO, which is still under investigation. So no file to test as of yet.

They are handled by the same driver from what I can find.


Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Sorry, mixing two different threads. :(

 

The problem here seems to be that the driver seems to be build from a static tarball with a v1.0.0 driver from 2013 or so. The current version of the driver (https://github.com/l..._dep/usb_intf.c) does include the USB ID for your stick.

 

I will try to test the build of this driver tomorrow, if I can find a gap in between work that pays for food on the table. ;)

Sorry but my knowledge of linux is pretty limited. I just know how to install .ipk.  :unsure:

 

What do you mean by "the current version of the driver already include USB ID of my stick", is that driver included in the image itself? If so, why my stick is not recognized by the box?

No, I meant the source repository. But for some reason we don't build from source, we build from a static archive that contains a 2013 version of the driver.

 

In the source repository the device was added  on April 21st: https://github.com/l...371da31f505ee2b

 

So I've changed my local build recipe to use that, so I can build it locally. But unfortunately my own build server has (I think) a faulty memory module, it hangs every now and them, so instead of building I'm now fiddling with memory timings... :(

 

As soon as I have an ipk to test I'll post it here.
