There ara many boxes with this 4 digit display, they are good to show clock in standby or deep standby, while showing services you can´t tell one from another, I saw this on OpenATV, couldn´t find anything working for OpenPLi so i did it myself, all you need is corrected /usr/share/enigma2/skin_text.xml, make backup of original OpenPLi before replacing it, I just replaced render="Label" with render="RollerCharLCD", the modified RollerCharLCD by @shamann(for 4 digits) goes to usr/lib/enigma2/python/Components/Renderer, reboot the box, you have now srolling text in display, so simple, any advices with skin_user.xml, skin_display.xml just didn´t work on OpenPLi

yes, well kind of, it is not VFD Display, e.g., on this picture you can´t tell
ProSieben
ProSieben Austria
ProSieben FUN
ProSieben HD
ProSieben HD Austria
ProSieben Maxx
ProSieben Schweiz
it is all the same, with this plugin the text is running from right to left so you can see the rest

I don't have enough of 4 digits to display my channel numbers (I have more than 9999 channels), so scrolling the text can also be useful for digits.

(I have more than 9999 channels)

Also with alternative numbering (each bouquet starts with 0001)....

Actually having a 4-7 segment display is not that helpfull...

Can someone show me a movie how it looks like as actually the patch is not that big... And actually after a timeout we show the time again.

Personally, I think that normally it is not possible to use the 7 segment display for text.
I know that many people want it, but it seems to me that this is just their habit from other receivers and they ignore obvious things.

The first problem is the fact that many letters, especially non English, can not be displayed on the 7 segment display understandable.
The second problem is that the 4 symbols can not show the names of channels that are usually longer. You can scroll the text, but still it is not normally readable.

This option can be introduced as an additional feature for users who want it, but not as an option by default.

Can someone show me a movie how it looks

you can see the result on any box with display

This option can be introduced as an additional feature for users who want it, but not as an option by default.

yes in Setup/System/Display setup, there are some options already there but without any effect, only brightness works, e.g.
scroll yes/no
from which char to start scrolling, if you have 16 segment VFD you don´t need to scroll from 4th char
scroll repeats, 1...10, continuoesly
scroll delay (how fast should scroll)
initial scroll delay
final scroll delay
...
