Does anyone know why it's not possible to install the plugin AspectRatioSwitch in OpenPLi V6.0 after a fresh install?

See the attached screenshot. What am I doing wrong?

It's a third party plugin, which we only have available in binary form as the source isn't published. So it's no longer compatible.

Okay, I understand.

For many years, I have often used this plugin to change the aspect ratio fast with just one touch of a button.

I feel totally disabled without this. Is there any other solution, or is it only downgrade to 4.0 that solves the problem?

How do you others do when single media is displayed with wrong aspect ratio?

looks like an error in ipk, install it manually to usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/SystemPlugins and restart enigma2

It is probably packages using tar instead ar. If so it's probably an easy fix, I'll have a look.

I've repackaged it, can you try installing it again?

 

You might have to flush your local cache first, opkg is smart enough not to download it again if it is in cache:

opkg clean

edit: it works here now:

Thanks for your help. Before I test your solution, I would like to answer "littlesat":

 

It's quite common for MKV movies to start with wrong aspect ratio. For example, tall narrow people.

So I need to change aspect ratio fast for just that movie, so black edges appear above and below the picture.

 

I see that I can solve this problem by switch the feature "Display >16:9 content as" from "Just scale"

to "Letterbox", and after I watched the movie, just switch it back.

 

However, there are many keystrokes that this plugin quickly handled with only one keystroke.

Therefore, I think it worked well.

 

If there is any other solution than installing this old outdated plugin, please tell me.

I always have it set to "Letterbox", for many years now. And I've never had any need to switch it to something else? Why do you want it on "Just scale"? What benefit does that give you?

When I watch TV, I'd rather have this setting on "Just scale" because there are channels that

have black edges on the sides, and I hate this. For example "Discovery World" in Sweden.

Then you better can set your tv on these channels that the tv zoomed in... and not let your box do something... i know Discovery world is ugly. The same service you can see is the feed for dutch cable...

The only really good solution would be that Discovery would start broadcasting using proper technical settings. They really should simply change the aspect ratio in the bitstream for 16:9 vs. 4:3 and then on your receiver you could configure to watch both. For 4:3 you could select pan&scan (no black borders at all, just something cut off at the top and the bottom), just scale (ugly) or letterbox (black borders to the left and right). Discovery broadcasts 4:3 in it's metadata and then "fits" 16:9 in it using black border on top and bottom. Completely wrong. That way the 4:3 viewing options cant really work.

 

And indeed the second best option to workaround this flaw is to change the zooming on the TV set, but it looks ugly and it's a hassle.

Greetings to the forum. I have observed a fault with the receiver zgemma H3, and is that the function of changing the aspect of the ratio of the screen does not work as with those of other "teams". That is, for example when a channel broadcasts in 16: 9, but does not fill the screen. The control of this receiver is very complete and brings a key already assigned for the function, but when the key is pressed several times, the display shows scan, letterbox, auto, etc, but the image does not change, ie not full the screen, so that the images and bodies appear deformed.

Any particular channel this happens on? Or any 16:9 channel?

 

Have you installed and activated the autoresolution plugin? Is the TV set to fixed 16:9, or is that perhaps set to a "wide" setting?

 

I haven't seen any issue on any 16:9 broadcast, and I've never had a need for that function, so at the moment I don't know how to reproduce or check this.

This is probably, just like I explained, a broken service. They'll be adding black borders. In theory you could make some code that crops off the black borders and zooms in to the non-black part. That's probably what "the other images" do. But it's foolishness because you'll lose quite a bit of resolution. The service should be fixed instead.

Thanks for the help. I had not installed the autorresolution plugin. After installing, restarting, and activating the function, there is no change. For example, the Evilangeltv channel, comes with the anamorphic images. By pressing the VMODE button on the zgemma remote control, the appearance or aspect ratio does not change. Instead with some other image (for example openLD 2.8) this function if done correctly, and the image fits perfectly to the screen when it is set to "auto". I think it must be some video drivers issue.

Hi all, sorry to revive this thread after several months, but I also have tried to install the aspectratioswitch plugin, because some SD channels are broadcast with wrong (and often changing) settings, causing the image to be distorted. On my old receiver (dm8000) with Openpli 4.0 I assigned a smart key to the aspect ratio switch and that worked very well. On my new receiver (ultimo 4K) with Openpli 6.1 RC when I try to install the plugin from the feed I get the following: root@vuultimo4k:~# opkg install enigma2-plugin-extensions-aspectratioswitch Collected errors: * opkg_prepare_url_for_install: Couldn't find anything to satisfy 'enigma2-plugin-extensions-aspectratioswitch'. Does that mean that the plugin isn't compatible anymore? Or does it make sense to install the ipk manually as suggested above by mrvica?

It's a 3rd-party plugin, and it should be available, it is in the feeds.

however, it's a binary package with MIPSEL architecture, so it isn't available for ARM based SoCs, used in all 4K boxes...

 

As far as I can see, there's nothing binary in the package, so it's just something stupid the author did. Ideally it has to be moved to e2openplugins, so it can be build like other plugins...

Meanwhile I have downloaded the ipk provided above in the thread and installed it manually. This works without problem on my VU+ ultimo 4K. Only thing stupid about the plugin is the limited choice of hotkeys it can listen to (<<, STOP, >>, bouquet +/-, video, Radio, Help), most of which should not be remapped. I use the key 'Help' wich causes the least damage. Would be nice if I could map it to e.g. 'red long' or 'exit long' but that is not included in the possibilities.
