Why there is not an openpli 6 image for Xtrend et-10000?

didn't look hard enough than, as it has been discussed at least 100 times... ;)

There are driver issues with the 1st en 2nd generation Xtrends (up until the 10K), so we can't build them until the manufacturer fixes those.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Because there a serious problems relating to the drivers. They (Xtrend) need to update their BSP and since Xtrend was taken over this has not happened (and maybe never will). OpenPli devs have decided to freeze OpenPli 6 until Xtrend decides to update their BSP

So we et10k users should flash back to OpenPli 4. Am I right?

Yes you are right, PLi4 will run fine on your et10k's.

rc6 runs on two 10k boxes here with me without any problems.
So thank you for your advice. I'll go back.

I'm running a development image on mine, for test purposes. And it runs without problems, until it doesn't. ;)

Sometimes the volume suddenly switches off when I move one up or down, or the OSD has a weird size. A restart usually fixes it, until it happens again. The volume issue was already present in OpenPLi 4, we thought we fixed it with a workaround in Enigma, but appearently that is not the case.

The actual problem is that the drivers are corrupting random memory, which may result in a sudden crash, but that's not the main concern. The main problem is that memory corruption may lead to sudden crashes later on (even after weeks), corrupting new or existing recordings and/or the filesystem on the harddisk.

So the issue is really a bit more severe that only "sometimes crashes".

Are also other Xtrends affected by this memory corruption problem?
What about OpenPLi 4, aren't the drivers the same?

It has been observed in the ET8000, ET9x00 and the ET10000. The ET4000 probably has the same issue, but nobody reported it as of yet. All drivers come from the same development team, and you can assume they all contain the same bugs. Later Xtrends use a different development team for the drivers.

Yes, the drivers are the same, so it's probably related to the environment they run in. The kernels are compiled with a different compiler, so that might result in other memory management, byte alignments, code optimisation, etc, that could trigger the bug more easily. Note that the volume problem on the ET10000 also exists in OpenPLi 4, but there we managed to come up with an alternative way of coding it so the bug wasn't triggered. That trick doesn't work anymore, any interaction between Enigma and the drivers' proc entries are problematic.

Hi,
my Xtrend ET10000 runs good with openpli rc6.0.
It just crashes sometimes with mediaportal..but this is really really rare, even my wife (she hates updates & crashes) can cope with that. And, well, mediaportal is most compatible with dreamboxes...

We dont record often, but I did not notice any corruption of records.

I also use some Plugins which I guess make permanent 'traffic' (lcd4linux, fritzcall, netatmo), but RC6 is running.. I hope this will last..

I hope Xtrend will fix that....

If you're lucky and it starts up ok, and you don't touch the OSD rescaling functions, chances are you will not exprience the OSD bug. You can still have the problem with the disappearing sound, I have that at least once a day while testing.

There are no problems with ET10000, using OA-E images. They use a newer kernel 4.10.6, OpenPLi has 4.0.1.

Why is that? Why not use the new kernel with new drivers?

We can't use it, drivers are defined in the BSP, and we don't maintain (or have write access) to the BSP repository.

And we don't want to use it, as we don't know what is in them. The manufacturer has aleady confirmed they have not made those drivers, so the whereabouts of those drivers are very vague. For all we know they could contain a massive backdoor...
