I just tested your scenario on my Ultimo 4K but unfortunately (for you) I can't confirm what you experienced. I tested several different movies and speeds and stopped playing with the stop button. In my situation live TV starts without any problem. I haven't tried just stopping the movies without returning to live watching TV.

Hello,

I have a VU Ultimo 4K too, and I meet exactly the same problem as reported by sjlouis. I'm under the Pli 6 updated today.

Reading a recording of BBCTwo HD normaly, after an acceleration at x 16 and stop, Pli hangs and  the spinner starts to turn. I must  to reset by the rear button. I do not have a connection with the PC and do not use Telnet. I don't control scripts very well. I'm just pointing out the problem. The internal HDD is a Crucial 500 Go SSD, a very recent one.

Yes I've done tests with different files and different speeds. When I stop a movie, the stb returns to the list of movies. in this case, it closes the movie and returns to the list of movies but the screen stays black while the background of my skin is blue and in the small window, the movie continues to run in 4x speed a few seconds before stopping on the picture (as pause).

I can do test with an simple flash without any plugin.

Senior member,

I've always used the default PLI Skin,  both with PLI 4 and PLI 6. I never change the skin

I've done tests by flashing the last Pli 6 version and the last Pli 4 version. I have only change language, 1080 p, HDMI and assistant display and I have the same problem :( .

Is it possible to have a command (probably with the only physic button) to stop this type of problem without switching off electrucaly the stb?

When the spinner starts running there is not much left to do ... that's too late, unless it stops by itself ...

If you can connect via telnet there are chances that you can send a command to reboot the box.

Yes but I don't want to reboot the box because it's recording and the records are good as I explained previously.

Besides the reboot command, the only other way I know that could help is stopping and restarting Enigma2, but I think that the recording too will be stopped.

But in this forum there are much more experts than me who could suggest other useful telnet commands.

there is no way i think.

@Eragon,

If you can connect via telnet there are chances that you can send a command to reboot the box.

Vu boxes have a emergency exit function so if the box hangs you can press and hold the power button on your remote control

till such time as the box reboot from alone.

this didn't work with the bluetooth remote control only with infrared remote control.

Biki3

Hi All of those remarks are very  interesting, but the problem still remain ... I don't remember anything like that

with my old VU Ultimo HD, perhaps it is a bug due to the STB 4K itself.

Hi,

In telnet you can try:

init 4
Then wait that it stop, then to restart:

init 3
But if it doesn't stop you need to type:

killall enigma2
init 4
reboot now

Don't bother trying to debug this, it has nothing to do with enigma.

Do this:

- login to the receiver, do dmesg -c and ignore the output.

- trigger the issue

- do dmesg -c again

- you will see lots of output from the kernel, stack traces from a null pointer dereference and the words "OOPS" or "BUG".

I other words, driver naughtyness and they have been stopped by the Linux kernel. Only remedy is total reboot.

Whenever you see spinners and they don't go away, ALWAYS first check the output of dmesg.

Ok, I've done other tests and I found something interesting. When in the recording parameters I choice "go to the last service" when I press "stop", Pli returns to the channel (NRJ Hits for example) and doesn't crash. If I choice "ask the user", all the options which allows to go to the film list crashes the box.

Then it seems there is a problem in Pli and when I read the error message, I see the same one than I can have with a python program :

unsupported operand type(s) for -: 'int' and 'NoneType'

int(x) returns a problem if x is not an integer. In this case, it's a NoneType object, it doesn't return a value.

The first time I tried to stop Enigma with pressing a long time on the power button, it doesn't do anything. With the response of Biki3, I tried again and in fact it works if I press a very long time, at least 15 seconds.

If I can connect to the box with Telnet, no command (init x, reboot...) restarts the box. One of them returns to the service but there in no picture, no sound, but I can see subtitles  .

Erik, when do I type these commands ? Before the crash or after ?

Lupus, you can change the parameter if you want to avoid to crash the box. it's not very convenient but it's safer ;) .

That's what you are the expert at ;) "Trigger the issue" means: whatever you do that tends to give the problem.
