This does not apply for me as I can view the box when flashed with ViX
This also doesn't apply as I've tried flashing the 8th Jan 6.1 release, without any settings restore and it still does not show in explorer

So post the config of ViX (which is, in violation with the GPL license) not online available, so we can play a game of "search the 10 differences".
Underlying problem is that Network Neighborhood in Windows traditionally worked based on netbios broadcasts. This has been deprecated in Windows 7, and is switched off by default in Windows 10. This means that in Windows 10 you only see the box if it happens to catch a broadcast if it is send on the EXACT moment you open the explorer, and only if netbios over TCP is enabled in the network adapter settings. It no longer actively participates in Netbios browsing, and it doesn't keep a database of captured broadcasts anymore.
Modern Windows systems use DDNS for service discovery, which is great for enterprises, but (virtually) no home user has a DDNS system running.
To work around this, mDNS has been designed, a system that is called avahi in open source, or bonjour for Apple. Unfortunalely Microsoft hasn't joined, but made their own, not compatible implementation. Adding that to Enigma is on the todo list.
As all OpenPLi boxes run avahi (see the release notes if you have upgraded), you will see all boxes on a PC that has iTunes installed, as that comes with Bonjour for Windows (so it can find Apple devices on the network). This may be a reason why some PC's see the box, and others don't.

Yes, and I have no issues using PLi.
And neither using ViX with the PLi Samba-config.

And this is because it's an issue at the Windows end, not at the samba end.
The "old vix" config doesn't have any browser configuration, so that only works on Samba 3.x (where the default is "on"), not on Samba 4.x. In the "new vix" config they seem to have nicked the conf system from OE-A. And it also doesn't have any netbios browser method active.
Which version runs? (use "/usr/sbin/smbd -v" to check).

Thought so.
OpenPLi 6.1 uses 4.4.5, so compatible with "new ViX".
If it is config related, you can simply replace /etc/samba with the files from ViX (the entire directory stucture as in the attachment), and reboot the box. And then it should work again. If not, it is not related to the samba version and the samba config.

Just replacing the /etc/samba/ files doesn't do it, there are other files in the ViX build that are not in the PLi or are in different locations. I did try to load the ViX build into PLi but even ignoring the failed dependencies, it still fails to start looking for a missing lib - libpamc.so.1

well if you need to see the root of your box with samba even if you do not see the box in the windows neighborood, Just mount a network drive of your box :-)
Cause for any reason , it was working and not now , so i find the way of the network drive and it works.

It's just config, so you need to remove the config lines that are related to pam.

Unfortunately that's not making it any better M8. I don't know enough about troubleshooting networking to figure it out. All I can say is that with a ViX image on the box, it appears in Windows explorer instantly, without a need to refresh, whatever I do with PLi 6 or 6.1, it doesn't appear in Explorer but the net view command does show the root and hdd shares.
It's not a major issue for me, I can use FTP but just a bug report. It may be a problem with windows, but other images get around it.

I don't know, I can't see what goes wrong in your local setup.
All I know is that our smb.conf is correct, it broadcasts, I can prove it broadcasts, and the majority of the users don't have any issues. And that there is absolutely nothing special in the ViX config.

I know this is OT, but windows10 file explorer sees my ET10K (ViX) , but my Synology NAS is no longer visible since the last WIndows Autumn upgrade.
Microsoft has retired SMB1. If you re-enable it (using turn on program features), the NAS can be seen again.
Security using SMB1 then becomes an issue again.
