Yes, now I understand, this makes sense.
There is no such thing as "AVC MPEG2" video codec. It's either (MPEG4) AVC or MPEG2.
It can be very well that there are streams that can be played on your computer with software codecs that cannot be played by a set-top-box. A STB is designed for DVB, not for random media. So DVB streams it will play without problems, media not always.
There are quite a few properties of a stream or file that can make it non-DVB-compliant. Your computer may be able to play it, but the hardware decoder in the STB may not.
