Putty is a PC based program to access Telnet or SSH clients. It is not a plugin for an STB. But correct me if I am wrong.
I use Putty to control my STB from my iPad..

Hi,

You need to define a password on your root before being able to connect with SSL.

So first connect with telnet on your box, the type:

passwd

Define a password and now try putty.

what do you mean, doesn´t work, what does not work, you can login with putty or puttytel to your box, is that true, then commands like passwd, wget ... do not work the way you want it, these commands do not come from putty but form shell (busybox), so putty is not the problem I think, the title is a bit misleading, can you please post the whole console ouput of commands, you think they don´t work as expected, if you need to set a paasword for SSL delete first your root password

passwd -d root

and set new one with passwd

Why are you using wget to put your files back on your receiver?

Please describe what is your setup and exactely what you are trying to do, to use wget you need your files to be accessible from a URL, meaning that you have a webserver running somewhere on your network and this webserver access the file you want to copy.
