Attached a file for restoring the factory splash screen for several brands/models.
Just extract the file to an USB stick and flash as you would flash an image. The actual image & data will not be overwritten.
If more boxes/brands can be supported please let me know (and please including a link to the factory image).

Unfortunately, it does not work for ET9000.
Perhaps the bootloader does not allow to replace splash screen although it must have allowed it in the past because it is years since I have been struggling with removing the RuDream logo the previous owner of my box used.

For the ET9x-series the flashing of the splashbin must be allowed via an other button then flashing the image. Unfortunately I don't remember which button, and my 9x landed on the attic.
But I do remember it does work 
If you're lucky BetaCentauri will read this: he gave me the working tip at the time.

By the way, the folder in your file is et9x00 while my display says ET9X00 on boot. Do I have to use capital letters or not?

1- For the button allowing the flash: IIRC it's the opponent of the normal button. So if the normal button is "UP", the button allowing the screen flash is "DOWN" (or LEFT/Right).
2- The files in the folder should be correct (same as image folders).

But for ET9000 the normal button is OK so what would the opposite be?

Unfortunately this does not work for me.
When I switch the box on (using the back switch) and the stick contains a new image, I get a question on the display in order to confirm flashing and I press OK.
Here, there is nothing in the display and the box just goes on booting.
Or do I have to keep the UP button pressed at the same time as I switch the box on?
And by the way, should it be CHANNEL UP or VOLUME UP?

Why don't just try them all? When I had an xtrend, I did Couldn't remember which.
* Wavefrontier T90 with 28E/23E/19E/13E via SCR switches 2 x 2 x 6 user bands

OK, I give up for now. Tried various buttons, using a FAT32-formatted USB stick at the front, without success on my ET9000.
First of all, there is no prompt on the display, while there is one when a real image is on the USB stick. We don't know when to press a button. So I tried pressing it right after switching the box on as well as right before (still keeping it pressed down after switching the box on). I tried various UP, DOWN and MENU keys. All in vain.
I know there are probably just a handful of guys still owning ET9000 so there is noone who can prove me wrong.
When I get hold of another stick I may test more, perhaps using the port at the back.

Yes, normally that should not be a problem. The only real problems one can encounter are:
1- Stick is too large (size does matter: the smaller the better (in this case))
2- Not properly formatted. When using the HP-tool it should always be fine. Formatting by Windows sometimes provides a stick not recognised by the box.
