2) And what if Rytec EPG is imported when the box is in standby, will it be saved to epg.dat file?

It is imported to RAM. It is not saved to epg.dat at that stage. It will be saved to epg.dat at the restart/shutdown stage.

In my opinion, if a physical hdd is not connected, PLi should mount storage devices as hdd like other images do. Saves all the issues of recording path, timeshift path, backup path, restore path, crash dump location etc. Just to paraphrase one of the developers, granny should not have to less around with all the computer stuff.

The TECHNICAL problem here is that there is no way of knowing that an internal harddisk is NOT connected. On various boxes, an USB harddisk will register sooner, and once something is mounted on /media/hdd it's hard to get rid of it.

All these issues don't actually exist until you connect more than one disk. If you do nothing, recordings will be placed on whatever internal disk you have, regardless of where it happens to be mounted. Granny won't notice, the recordings are "just there". That's how Linux systems have been mounting devices for the past few decades, I don't see why OpenPLi should live in the previous century just because some controlfreak cares whether the internal disk mounts as "hdd". The box is completely and fully open source so if you care, just hack the box to do as you please but don't bother granny about it.

If you only have one storage device the image will save to the device by itself. You don't need to worry about it

Telnet into the box, stop Enigma using the command "init 4", edit "/etc/enigma2/settings" and add the line "config.misc.epgcache_filename=/media/usb/epg.dat". Save, and start Enigma again using "init 3".

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

config.misc.videowizardenabled=false

config.misc.epgcache_filename=/media/usb/epg.dat
config.movielist.last_videodir=/media/hdd/movie/
config.movielist.videodirs=['/hdd/movie/']
config.Nims.0.diseqcA=3601
config.Nims.0.diseqcB=3601

performed as much as conspiracy, but it does not work ... where did I go wrong?

For end-user using this process and want the see the result the next step are:

- import the EPG wait until it is finished

- zap to check the EPG is properly set

- put your STB in standby

Then check if the file is created on the place you specified.  ;-)
