Please,is there any chance that we could have the feedback of the tuner signal level
even without a "LOCK" in some next version of OpenPLi?

It is probably not possible with the drivers used in common Enigma2 boxes.

So the tuner drivers are responsible for showing the level of the signal ( SNR,AGC )?

I thought it must be some script or file in enigma 2 ( python )....

And where do you think would the "script" or "file" take the necessary info from?

Yes...now it's getting more clear to me...finally.

What about switching the tuner drivers from the older ( gemini 2 ) image

with the new ( Open PLi ) tuner drivers?

Would it be possible?

Sorry for asking maybe dummy questions, but I am still quite an amateur in this.

It would be nice to have a spectrum analyzer and waterfall on the ui... so you have a satfind/blindscan like software defined radiion(sdr)... but the tuners and/or drivers we have available do not support it...

Thanks guys for making this thing more clear now for me..

When I started trying to fix this on my Dreambox 8000 it seemed

for me it would be a piece of cake....now I realize it's quite the opposite...

I am afraid that, with all my regrets and sadness,I'll have to go back

from OpenPLi to my old prehistoric Gemini 2.

And I still consider OpenPLi as by far best image ever...

And what does the old Gemini 2 offer which is better than the current OpenPLi?

Shows the tuner level signal ( in SNR and AGC ) even when there's no "LOCK".

Absolutely cruical for me ( and I guess for others while tuning the dish and LNB-s )

to see are you any close to get the signal.

When you have a toroidal dish with 20 LNB-s ( very much similar like @littlesat ),

you have to do a lot of tweekings, specially with some signals when you're at the edge

of a footprint.

Open PLi crashes all the values to "0" right after it losts the signal.

OK, I understand.

That indeed would be great to be able to see signal strength before lock but I have never had that with any box.

My understanding, though, is drivers do not enable it so I am surprised that old drivers made it possible.

IMHO if you don't have a lock, the signal is already far below the minimum signal to noise ratio.

Not exactly....

To get a decent signal ( stable picture ),you need cca 34-35% SNR ( cca 6 dB ).

If you're close to get this, but still have no "LOCK",the numbers would jump arround

27-30% ( cca 5 dB ). Of course,with Gemini image...

Then you know with a bit more effort you should be able to reach for a "LOCK".

Either by tweaking a dish or LNB more precisely,or instal a better LNB,or,at the end,

go for a bigger dish.

Wow...this looks quite interesting...

Although I have no idea could this be used in Dreambox images or does it

do anything with the tuner drivers?

But I will try to go deeper to find out about it...thanks!

Start from installing it on your box.
