Hi,

it's possible to add support for Ethernet USB controler rt8153 in OpenPli 6.1?

I want use it on my VU+ Ultimo to get higher transfer than 100Mbit. On Windows VIP PID looks like this : USB\VID_0BDA&PID_8153

here are sources for linux but I can not compile it on STB

http://www.realtek.c...3&GetDown=false

Regards,

The "sources" of the driver are irrelevant. What matter is whether the manufacturer (VU+) enabled support for in the Linux kernel for your receiver. And apparently they didn't.

To properly know what driver you need, do this:

- install the package "usbutils"

- type dmesg -c > /dev/null

- plug the converter into the receiver (not your Windows PC)

- type dmesg

- type lsusb

Post the output of the last two command here.

If you take a look here: https://cateee.net/l...SB_RTL8152.html

You will see USB_RTL8152 appeared on 3.10.

Ultimo is using 3.9.6 so you need to backport driver.

How to do this?

Let me put it this way, I think it will prove simpler and cheaper to ditch the stick and buy a wireless bridge.

I don't think that wireless bridge will be faster than 100Mbit.

Maybe there is some other USB Ethernet 1Gbit adapter which is supported in kernel 3.9.6 and OpenPLi 6.1?

Problem is that kernel 3.9.6 is from june 2013, so you won't find any recent hardware in it.

And it isn't that difficult, for example the Linksys WUMC710 is an 802.11ac bridge with 4 gigabit ethernet poorts. But I doubt it is the only one...

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Nonsense. Most access points can act as a wireless bridge.

The others need a BSP update from the manufacturer to enable it.

./meta-vuplus/recipes-bsp/linux/linux-vuultimo-3.9.6/vuultimo_defconfig:CONFIG_USB_NET_AX88179_178A=

so there is a chance that it will be working.

I will buy adapter and let You know.

You can check up front:

opkg update && opkg list | grep "88179"

it should display the installable package containing the driver.

Then it should work fine, providing the driver is ok.

ax88179_178a 1-1:1.0 eth1: register 'ax88179_178a' at usb-ehci_hcd-1, ASIX AX88179 USB 3.0 Gigibit Ethernet, 00:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
usbcore: registered new interface driver ax88179_178a

NET: Registered protocol family 10
IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth1: link is not ready
ax88179_178a 1-1:1.0 eth1: ax88179 - Link status is: 1
IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): eth1: link becomes ready

So far so good

,but effects are not spectacular:

wget - ~16MB/s

ftp server - ~15,4MB/s

samba - ~21,5 MB/s

so its, jump from 11MB/s to 21,5 - not bad but I hoped that will be a bit better.

Edit:

P.S. It's VU+ Ultimo

Absolutely not bad at all, I think you're hitting the limit of the SoC's USB implementation.

Yes, the limit of USB2 is ~ 30 Mbps.
