I have just run a OpenPli developer build for the Mutant HD51 and planned to flash the multiboot image, but I get an untar tar read short message from ofgwrite:-

ofgwrite Utility v3.9.8
Author: Betacentauri

Untar: tar xf /media/hdd/imagebackups/imagerestore/hd51/rootfs.tar.bz2
short read
tar: short read

so the flash fails.

If I also unzip the build entries in Ubuntu, I get the same result.

Anyone any ideas??

Check your build logs, it looks like you build failed at some point.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Build ran to completion successfully, no errors shown in logs ..... I am going to rerun on 6.1 and see how that goes.

Ran 6.1 - clean build no errors, ofgwrite has same issue with multiboot ----- as does Ubuntu.

Will try clean flash of OpenPli tomorrow and take it from there.

If you cannot unpack the tar.bz2 on your PC, it’s not ofgwrite fault. Then your image is corrupt.

Yes, realise that .. have absolute faith in ofgwrite.
Tried the latest download and that works fine, so its the build ... just no errors shown.

getting further!!

So the Emmc layout is different between OpenPli and the OE-A images with different Rootfs sizes and Rootfs Partition sizes - partly because of the implemented swap partition for Kodi in the OE-A. (4 images partitions plus swap)

Also the method to create STARTUP in OpenPli means that on a reboot to another image works fine ... but it blows out the restart for other images which depend on a standard format for the STARTUP files,  which is observed by OpenPli for Boxmode = 12 but not Boxmode = 1.

I guess this is not a concern to OpenPli, but it would really help with compatibility between images, so taht users can happly flip between images .

Going to try a few tricks with the build to see if I can fix my flashing of OpenPl.

P.S. like OpenPli 6.1 image!!!   Very fast.

I just noticed this thread.

Can I safely install other images (such as OpenATV) beside OpenPLi using "Flash Image" option in the menu? Or is this asking for trouble?

My belief (because I use similar code) is that you can reboot from OpenPli to OpenATV  (OpenPli nicely lists the image(s) by name on the other partitions) on the HD51, but  trying to go back may cause a system crash in the ATV multiboot screen, if you are using bootmode=1 (default for OE-A images, because of Kodi) .... the OpenATV code for the HD51 is smarter than mine and may handle it --- will have to check

Don’t rename the startups. Regarding the other parameter it looks like OpenPLi is deleting them. But these are default values. So it should work to switch from Atv to PLi and back.

Yes, it does ... I simplified my code not expecting the format change to defaults, will have to put some code back in to handle!!!

@Robinson: You can safely install other images via the flash image functionality. Ofgwrite can handle different emmc layouts and different partition sizes.
There might be a problem with switching between the images. I changed OpenATV Code some time ago so that it worked. I don’t know whether it works for all other images.
If you have problems you can always start the box by pressing the button on the box for several seconds. Then the first image boots.

Thanks betacentauri.

Is ofgwrite already within the OpenPLi image or do I have to install it first?

Just curious because when I go to MENU - FLASH IMAGE, I do not have any path to choose. I believe 3 online OpenPLi 6.1 multiboot images are found (22 January, 15 January, 8 January).

There is no trace of hd51 folder I put on my HDD with an OpenATV image.

In 6.1 it is already in the image (as Enigma has a dependency to it because of this feature).

The current flash image option doesn't have the functionality yet to select an already downloaden image, or a backup image (from something like backupsuite).

Ok, so how is it possible at this moment to install 3 other images in 3 different "slots" when using OpenPLi?

I don’t know exactly, but I think backupsuite is also no option.
There are 2 ways:
1. Install OpenATV or similar image in partition 1. Then install from this image via the GUI the other images.
2. Use ofgwrite tool via command line. Unpack the image on a USB stick or hdd. Then execute ofgwrite from command line:
ofgwrite -r -k -mX <path to image files>
Exchange the X with the image partition. So 1 for the first image. 2 for the second and so on.
Example: You want to install an image in slot 3 and the image is located in /media/usb/hd51:
ofgwrite -r -k -m3 /media/usb/hd51/

1. will work well - you can load up the 1st slot with OpenATV, then copy the OpenPli image (multiboot.zip not usb.zip) to HDD/USB on the receiver and use the ATV software manager/flash_online to flash OpenPli to slot 2/3/4.
Both OpenPli & OpenATV long push on power button will give you all the power options + multiboot, which allows you to restart to another image.
OpenPli is nice because (in case you have forgotten) it tells you which image (OpenPli etc) is in which slot.
OpenViX doesn‘t support multiboot.
