Remove and install is always better. But you'll probably have to remove /etc/samba manually, as opkg will not remove files that have been changed or added outside it's control.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Remove and reinstall but same issue without line

smb passwd file = /etc/samba/private/smbpasswd

grrrrr

There is only the general passwd, the samba password is erased.

What samba password? There is no samba password. The password used is the linux password. I've only told you that twice?

Can't say anything else than that it works fine here, as I showed you.

No, all my boxes have a root password.

When I try to connect, either using Windows, using a linux mount, or smb:://ip in nautilus, I get prompted for username and password. I type in "root" and root's password, and I am in.

It's crazy, i have now exactly the same configuration but when i type the password , it's asked again and again.

It's possible that's a tdb (or other file type in /var/lib/samba) imported from my old OP 4.0 with autobackup, the problem ?

To test: I flash a fresh 6.1 OP

No import from autobackup

Telnet and passwd, to define the root password

modify just one line (guest ok = yes change in guest ok = no) in the root shared path in /etc/samba/smb.conf

Same issue, this is not an import from old parameter the problem.

From other device.

mack@tripod7896 ~ $ mount -t cifs //192.168.1.13/root /mnt -o username=root
Password for root@//192.168.1.13/root: *******************
mount error(13): Permission denied
Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)

grrrrrr

And directly from the box

root@setopbox:/etc/samba# mount -t cifs //127.0.0.1/root /mnt -o username=root
mount: mounting //127.0.0.1/root on /mnt failed: Permission denied

Same issue

I don't understand why it's ok for you and it didn't work here.

Some weird password?

Are your client and server in the same workgroup? If not, try

mack@tripod7896 ~ $ mount -t cifs //192.168.1.13/root /mnt -o username=WORKGROUPNAME/root

No service issues on the box? If you do

/etc/init.d/samba.sh restart

does it stop nmbd and smbd, and start them again, without error messages?

You can also add

log level = 3

to the global setting in your smb.conf, and then restart samba. This will add debugging information to the log files in /var/log. Do you see any error messages in there (smbd.log and nmbd.log)?

The "&" character in the password gave me problems with mounts, there are probably others.

It's seems to be impossible to connect a samba share protected by password on open pli 6.1.
