Hi,

I'm about te reflash my ET10000, however I have two options.

In fact just one ( ;-) ) but in theory I could flash oATV6.2.

I remember discussions ( also EoL state Xtrend ) about the base level.

Looking at oATV it tells me internally almost every lib has been updated to actual level as well Python add ons.

furthermore it is based on openembedded: roko from December 2017, the highlights are:

  • Libc6 Update von 2.2.5 -> 2.2.6
  • Openssh 7.4 -> 7.6
  • Busybox 1.24 -> 1.27
  • Samba 4.4.16 -> 4.6.7
  • Openssl 1.02k -> 1.0.2m
  • Nfs Util 1.28 -> 2.1.1
  • Dropbear 2016.74 -> 2017.75
  • Bitbake 1.33 -> 1.37
  • Gcc 6.3.0 Memleak fix

Now in terms of stability I am not sure this is the way forward, especially when you take in account the ET10000 will be a server primarily streaming to a Vu+ and another Xtrend ( clients ).

Can one explain the difference between PLi and ATV as both are  " stamped " as 6.2

Thanks in Advance!

We decided to skip Rocko, we're currently working on Sumo for OpenPLi 7.

The question is, what do you want with all this? In other words, what will Bitbake 1.37 give you as a user? Other than a higher number?

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

thanks for your response. Indeed end user ( like I am ) is only interested in stability, well often ...

Question is if drivers and all that stuff are similar in both images - I honestly don't know up front , except trial and error flashing both and check what " uname -a " comes back with.

For me, as stated in inital post, the only thing that is important is stability ( eg: sound when device is powered on, no lockups on streaming to client ) and 2nd comes GUI ...

So basically if I understand correctly we compare apples with oranges ( though I prefer pears ) here:

both are total different images with different lay out, but remains interesting about the drivers being used though ...

Also the numbering scheme of OpenATV has absolutely no relation to our numbering scheme and v.v.

Openvpn  config keys and licenses should be put in ./etc/openvpn... after installation and restart it should be auto restarted. Manual restart could be done via /etc/init.d/openvpn [start/stop/restart]

In the folder: /etc/init.d/openvpn [start / stop / restart] does not open "openvpn" ..? After the Xtrend6500 receiver restarts, is the VPN automatically uninstalled? I do not know where I can manually start it as it does in the OpenAtv image?

There was an issue with the OpenVPN package that the start script in /etc/init.d wasn't created. I fixed that on December 20th of last year. Are you up to date?

Today, I installed the latest version of openpli6.2 ... I'm not very clever and I do not know how to do this over the console? In any case, thanks for the help and definitely leaving OpenPli and going to OpenATV .Since there are also my couple of friends, for the same reason I switched to OpenATV and I recommended that I go too. I used Open Pli for years, but now I have enough. Thank you...

When an enduser needs OpenVPN on the box, it's usually for one of two reasons: illegal activity or installation in the wrong place (as the box is not a security device and should not be used for remote access).

That is exactly the reason why we did not put it in the ui... avoid fake security... better to arrange VPN IPSec via your router...

You're right, but ....

If you want to access your home (your STB) when you're away, and your router doesn't have this option, What do you do then ?

I've never seen that advanced option in my FTTH Fiber router....

Replace your router. Or use another option, like the OpenVPN of a Synology NAS. Even OpenVPN on a RasbPi behind that modem would be beter.

In other words, use something that is hardened and secured for internet access. Your box isn't, everything runs as root, there is no security whatsoever. A lot of boxes (like your DM's) run ancient kernels that haven't received any security fixes in dogs years, and hacking into them isn't more difficult that hacking into a 20 year old Redhat 9.

There is a pluigin called something like "Change VPN" - it has some kind of GUI... If  the processor is strong enough - given how OpenVPN is working, using one core only - precisely because it's in root mode, VPN might be exactly what one needs even if nothing "untoward"  :rolleyes:  is going on in that box.

Have you tried PurE2? I have ET10K and it works really well...
